Default Why turbocharge?

IMHO, I really want the Z for its nice torqey, linear powerband. I can't see spending 30g's and then 5 more on a turbo kit that will lag and make it peaky. Will an aftermarket turboe'd engine ever see 100,000 miles? 200,000? I'm all for more power. Gimme 30-50 rwhp without any internal mods and I'll be happy.

Yeah I guess I just don't care so much about drag racing anymore. Just a light tint on the windows and ignore all jackasses.

Well, I'm thinking of going with a supercharger. Stillen has one in the works for the Z and I talked to a rep from Vortech today and he said they had a Z and were in the initial stages of developing a kit for it. He told me to be on the lookout in about 3 months.

Dude... the question "Why turbo charge" is like asking, "why fornicate?" because my friend, it feels incredible, and sometimes you just have to or you'll explode.

Turbo cars might have turbo lags, but N/A cars have constant lags. Seriously, turbo lag isn't really that big of a problem now days with all the new technologies that are out there.

you cant be serious about your Lag comment.

Jeezus.. 2 seconds of slower acceleration before you get kicked back into your seat from exponential power is awesome. i take it you've never sat in a turbo car? its INSANE!

what drives me nuts is not hearing my BOV.. *sigh*..

once you have it, its hard to go back to nothing..

i'd take a turbo over Supercharger anyday. lag or not.

centrifugal superchargers have lag too u know.

i cant wait to get my PE turbo kit.. just waiting for it to come out!

The only turbo car I ever drove was like a 1988 chrsler New yorker turbo. Floor it and it would be like 1....2....oh here we go!!

Default Those old chrysler turbos suck

Those Chrysler turbos (older ones) have a TON of lag. Way too much to be good.

You need to drive something with a modern turbocharger. Either a light weight turbo (quick spool up) or even better a variable nozzle design. They spin up much faster and are thus easier to control. Apples and oranges.

As for me, if I go with forced induction it would have to be a supercharger. Nearly zero lag (belt driven) and the power starts nice and low where I like it. To me a supercharger is the closest you can get to just increasing the displacement. So if you like the linearity of normal aspiration a SC may be for you.

But a turbo can be really fun. Feeling it spool up and ROAR on the highway is a blast.

But as the old saying goes

"As for me, I would rather be blown."

Took the words right out of my mouth. I went from a 400 HP turbo car with a little lag to a 300 HP V8 car with tons of torque everywhere. Guess which one I like better? Yep, once you go turbo you never go back.

Personally, i'm going to wait for number that both provide (cost and power) before i make any decisions.

OMG, thats great. Well said, could not have said it better myself! hahahaha

My friends S4 (yea i know its sequential trubos, not one big monster) but when that thing takes off, it feels like all hell broke loose. The impact of the turbos is unparelled IMHO
