Default Piston question

After searching I can't find a solid answer. What is the difference between 8:5:1 vs 10:5:1 vs 11:5:1? Is this a good engine mod to gain more power? If so which one is better and gives better hp? Which company gives the best bang for the buck.

well the 8:5:1 is usually for FI cars but if you r going to stay NA the 11:5:1 would be the clear choice for more power becouse it will create higher compression also the bore of the piston the bigger the better it is. And it all depends on what power level you want the more expensive the product the better quality it has. Hope it helps

Prepare to spend alot of $ if you want a 11:5:1 compression. Its gonna be almost the ame amount of boosting and getting a 8:5:1 with a built motor.

why is that? the heads flow plenty good for any n/a setup you could think of.
doing 11 or 12 to 1 comp would work really well all in its self . and while its apart you can add cams at no extra cost except for parts.
it would cost no where near as much as buying a 8.5 comp motor and adding a blower.
and at 11 or 12 to 1 with a .020 bore and the tyypical bolt ons the 300 rwhp barrier shold be easy to pass.

unless im missing something

are you prepared to drop $7500-$10k or so for a full engine build + labor? If not, look elswheere, because when its all said and done, that's where you'll be, without having modded any other single aspect of the car

well most of us have already done the supporting mods that would be doing this except maybe the cams, headers and ecu.

me personally ill have all of it except for the cams when i do it. a fully built motor that should put 300+ to the wheels can be had for 4k give or take a few hundred. add cams for to take it to 5k. then you have install. 15-20 hrs at what ever your rate in your area is. 83 an hr. here. for a grand total 6500 plus your ecu and tuning. bout 1/2 the cost of going with a blower. but alot less power as well. thats what the 300 shot is for!

Bottom Dead Center- Position of the piston at the bottom of the stroke
Top Dead Center- Position of the piston at the top of the stroke

When the atmosphere and vacume fills the cylinder with all the air it can at BDC, the piston then moves up and compresses it at TDC. The ratio 8.5:1 represents how much the piston will compress the air (with no modifications to the combustion chamber).

Ex. 10:1 cr piston. The space the air occupied divided in 10 parts will be compressed to 1/10 its size. The combustion chamber will decrease to 1/10 its size.

When air is compressed it heats up. F/I cars need lower compression pistons to fight off detonation (preignition) because the “blowers” are already cramming air into the engine. If it tries to compress more air it will detonate and/or increase cylinder pressure. To fight increased cylinder pressure, you need more fortified parts.
