Default Installed my new clutch light weight flywheel

ACT Street-strip clutch/stillen flywheel
Thanks to Jeff and Danny over at Maximum tuning for the install. Great guys and very reasonably priced and very professional. after I dropped off the car Jeff was good enough to drive and later in the day pick me up from the train station to and from the shop. If any of you guys in the NYC area would like a different option for a shop to work on there z's these are the guys to go to.

On to the review
Well first off I can tell right away that I need my idle bumped up. How do i know? well the car turned off soon after I turned it on when the rpms just dropped.. no biggie hit the gas a bit when you turn it on and it stays on.
On to the noise. at first there was no chatter what so ever, none. car sounded stock. Definitely revved quicker while in nuetral it just flys up to 4k with a tap. (coupled with the test pipes i had installed at the same time...sounds cool)
The clutch is a bit springy and will take a sec to get used to. In reverse it grabs almost instant and I stalled while backing up . Once again no biggie I was pretty used to it after the drive home in stop and go traffic.

I did notice however some chatter appeared after some driving. mostly at idle which was relieved by just pushing the clutch down and its back to silent.

All in all I can tell I will love it even more as it goes. getting into second it grabs like a **** and my slip light came on almost everytime until I got the hand of going into it a bit smoother. But you dump the clutch your tires are spinning plain and simple.

The engine feels so light now and unrestricted. It really freed up some power and the accleration gives a big smile to this z owner. Under load 1 2 3 and to some extent 4th and 5th really go through the rpm range much quicker. your in the powerband very quickly and with my new test pipes it was just a great feeling. Down shifting and rev matching a joy, its so easy to find that sweet spot now. It seems to just go right to it..

One little issue I hear a rattle now sometimes. It cant be chatter because it feels like its coming from the back somewhat like something loose. Also I notice it happens when the rpms are going down or low when you get that bit of vibration, then you just hear it a bit a of a clanking noise. I'll be getting it back to maximum tuning on Sat but dont think its anything crazy. May not have to do with the clutch and flywheel

All in all the car feels GREAT. Much quicker and like I said before the engine just feels free and wants to rev. Thats it

the clanking noise is most likely due to your Labree's. Just have the shop put shome spacers on the "M" brace to add more clearance for test pipes and you should be fine. Glad to see you like your new set-up.

My girlfriend bought me the clutch for a birthday in sep and the flywheel christmas time she was robbed with the clutch through the stillen website but wisened up and called and got the price of the flywheel dropped. Not sure what it all came out to though. Under 900 though for sure. if your getting it installed for free just think thats on average 4-5 hundred dollars your NOT paying. so it sould make the purchase of the set that much easier in your mind (in theory at least). Hope you enjoy it if you get it. It really is a great mod.

On to the noise.
You dont need to raise your idle, the ecu, or something will adjust to the new weight of the flywheel after a few days. I had the same problem when i got my flywheel installed last week.

thanks adriano It actually wasn't happening the last couple of days but just happened again today when i left the gym in the morning. Weird ill give it some time though.

as for the toerh question I believe (dont quote me though) that the stillen flywheel is just short of 14 pounds pretty much in line with all the other lightened fly wheels IE: JWt Exedy etc. with the execption of those crazy *** tiltons

or it could be indexed wrong (does it ever have trouble starting)? I'm not sure how the crank position sensors work on the Z but on some vehicles you can start/run it even if things are out of whack. i for one have NEVER experienced this symptom with my nismo flywheel (but then again nismo = 23lb vs 14.7 on yours). boy does that have to rev nicely!

Actually just like i was told its nothappening as much. (keep in mind I haven't really drivne it alot since the install). However its not happening every time i'd say one in 5. And yes it does rev sweet. I honestly thought it would rev up and down quicker when in nuetral but still not complaining just observing.
