questions about the quaife ATB LSD
So a long time ago we were all waiting ont eh qauaife to actually work but i never saw the threads saying if the unit ever really came through. Any owners want to give impressions? I finally have time to start modding my car again and this is the first step out of two (quaife then turbonetics). Its between this and the ATS twin carbon but i like the quaife bc its supposed to alst forever. Thanks in advance.

their primary advantage over other diffs (ie clutch types) is the Quaife's are quiet - performance wise they leave alot to be desired on a rear wheel drive car though compared to the clutch types

bad thing about ATS is you have to change the oil every 3k miles. 1 gallon is good for 2 oil changes and runs $99-105 a gallon... I don't know about you, but I wouldn't be thrilled spending $100 every 3k miles.

I have had the Nismo and now I have the Quaife. The Nismo is LOUD and jumpy, but works pretty good. The Quaife is quiet and works better than I had expected on the track. I track my car a lot and wouldn't switch back to the Nismo if I were paid too...well maybe if I was paid to

I've had the Cusco RS in my car for 2 years now - no unusual pops like the NISMO, and no unusually long intervals for the oil changes (I do it every 15k miles). Adjustable lockup %, and adjustable action from 1.5 to 2 way - plus it has a spring loaded center section for much improved low speed maneuvers. I run it at 1.5 way and 60% lockup using Motorcraft synthetic oil - one of the best mods I've done to the car

if you have a base and the quaife, the install should be very simple. that's what i did. it's hard to compare since it's the only one i've used, but i couldn't be happier with it. big help with drag racing, no more wheel hop.

That's their recommendation for hard core track use ,to maintain best performance. If you were pro , 3k would be expected.
For street use , you can far exceed 3k miles beyond the first breakin fluid change. The carbon discs , once broken in should last a very very long time on the street and occasional track.

I've had trouble with my initial Quaife because one of the sun gears was installed reversed from the factory which allowed one of the stub axles to have play. That caused my ABS/VDC/SLIP lights to stay on. Quaife was good about replacing that unit with a new one which went right in without a problem. So far with some spirited street driving the Quaife has done me no wrong and works as advertised. No intrusiveness, no noise, seamless. Going to get a chance with it on the track soon in May or July.
So if you are concerned about noise and intrusiveness your best bets are the Quaife and the ATS Carbon. I think Clint (THX723) said it best with this quote regarding the two units.

- On the track the ATS-carbon will do you no wrong. Period.
- On the street the Quaife will do you no wrong. Period.
- For the casual tracker, the Quaife's virtual zero maintenance schedule and 100% seamless operation gets my vote (no 'tut tut').
- For the serious tracker who also streets, ATS-carbon has an arguable edge here.
In order of streetablity:
1. Quaife (transparent)
2. ATS carbon (mild)
3. All other metal clutch type (may be intrusive)
