Default Do you burn oil? Describe your driving habits...

Another poster has suggested that burning oil could be caused by using the heel-toe technique, rev-matching or blipping your engine frequently. For those of you who currently burn oil (1 quart every 1000 miles or so) please describe your driving habits and techniques. I'm curious if there is indeed a correlation.

Here's a related post https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-drivetrain/181611-3rd-engine-still-burning-oil-how-long-does-it-take-to-seat-the-rings.html

Thanks,

Joel

I rev match coming to EVERY stop or to slow down all day every day-from subtle ones to near redline revmatches. I drive "spirited" and I have a raised redline. Most oil I have ever burned in a 3000-3500mile period is 3/4 quart, I usually burn less than 1/2 a QT

I drive very "spirited" as well, although I put more braking power in my brakes than engine braking but I do rev-match. I've never burned even a qt of oil over 3000 miles...

Drive like a maniac, cruise like Vanilla Ice. I rev match, heel toe, throttle steer and drink bottled water.

I burned oil with 10w30 mobil 1. After I switch to 5w30 I had no problems.

I burn about a quart per 1000 miles. I try to rev match all the time but don't "heel toe" because I suck at it. I use up the full RPM scale when accelerating. I engine brake half the time depending on how fast I am coming to a stop. I drive fairly agressively about 70% of the time I drive it. I rarely mash the pedal, though.

I have been using Mobil 1 this whole time and I've heard it tends to burn off rather quickly. Last weekend I switched to Motul 8100 to see if different oil would last longer or if it would burn off at the same rate. Only time will tell.

I'm still not convinced driving habits are the biggest factor here. I think some of our engines have a tendency to go through oil quickly; most likely due to build issues. We'll see.

Oh, i also use 5w30.

i drive it like i stole it...and am running from the cops....in a movie with cars that seam to shift 12 times before they hit 60mph

dont burn too much oil, in fact when nissan pulled my engine out due to a valve timing faliure, they said it was in realy good shape(44k), exsecpt for the valves. they got a little bin't out'a shape....and the valve seats....and some timeing gear....but not burning oil here. leaking a little though.

i do let the car warm up before i drive it but once oil psi is good i go... every day using up all the rpm's rev match heal toe, tires squeal like a school girl in some of the back roads too and from work. tripple digit speeds every day, at least i think dot look at the speedo offten. but i know past the top of thrid is getting up there. they said my clutch was in excelt shape too. that suprized me cause i kinda think every stop light and or sign are the lights on a drag strip.

over my car does not burn much oil just eats valves and other exspensive stuff. i love warrenties.
