I've been using Mobil 1 since my first oil change at 3000 miles.

I've done changes @
3000
6000
10000
15000 + 5000 from then on.

I'm actually just coming onto 10000, so I haven't hit my 5000 mile increment yet.

I've had the car 5 months, so I'm racking up the miles pretty quickly, which is why I went to the 5000 interval.

Been to 3 AutoX's and spent 2 days at the track. The two days at the track were basically 3+ hours of 5000 RPM+ (hit rev limiter a few times) and full throttle.

So far everything seems fine (except that I need new brakes - damn track days).

True synthetic oil (PAO basestock) has many benefits but recent court cases have led to the major oil companies passing off highly refined dino oil as synthetic. This has been widel publicised in the industry press but most consumers are unaware. Mobil 1 is not what it used to be. Sorry, but don't shoot the messanger! Read all about it here:

I just made my first oil change at 3000 miles and put in Amsoil ASL 5W-30. I plan on changing it twice a year which will probably be about every 5000 miles as the Z is not my only wheels.
True synthetics allow for significantly extended drain intervals if you are putting on the miles but you still need to get the acids out every once in a while. I'm not comfortable with once a year.

One thing is for sure, there is more BS and old wives tales about oil, synthetic oil, change intervals, breakin, etc. than practically any other topic on this site. Do some research and educate yourself.

OMG that is cheap for Mobil 1! I'm calling WalMart to see if they have that deal here.

It's funny that you mention Amsoil, because when I first got my Dodge Dakota (girlfriends actually) everyone on the Dakota boards were talking about this same issue. Basically Castrol started calling theirs sythetic, so Mobil sued and lost, and then changed their formula to match Castrol and be less expensive. Something like that anyway.

Eh, to me the true synthetic nature is not a huge factor. I'm just going with Mobil 1 since it is high quality, relatively inexpensive, readily available, and OEM oil for lots of cool cars. That makes it good enough for me! Not the best reasons, but peace of mind can mean quite a bit, ya know.

Redline seams to be the most popular synthetic for the trans and diff. Supposed to improve shift action significantly. I'll probably do that too. Did you blend the MTL & MT90? How does it shift?

I changed to Redline 10w30 @ 1200 miles.
There is a noticeable change in power delivery.
My track seems to make more power lower in the rpm range, with a smoother less pronounced transition between low and high rpms.
It also quieted engine noise.
Wix shows two part# for oil filters on there web sight. One is slightly smaller then stock. And one is much larger then stock. I went with the big one. It just made sense to me, more filtration less restriction. It might possible hit on the sway bar.
Has any one else run in to this issue?

yah. Mobil 1 is the best out there. Followed closely by Pennzoil. (my opinion of course).

My mechanic told me not to change to synthetic oil or redline until 8k miles. He is very good with import cars and usually tells me how it is with most everything I ever come to him with. He is a big fan of mobil 1 and redline and said they are great to use. He said that break in to 8k with regular oil is a good thing. Anyone have input on this ?

5x 4= 30?

Be careful calculating how much you put in during each oil change!

Still, that is a great deal. I just did oil change #2 at 6500 miles with Mobil 1, and paid more than that for a 6 quart case.

6 quarts = 1.5 gallons, for those doing the math with me.
