Default P/S cooler removel.

Is the power steering cooler absolutely necessary on the Z, where do you FI guys relocate yours at? My car is not tracked and rarely driven.

I would guess that it is quite necessary if the manufacturer put it there. If you do any spirited driving I would keep it on. Generally speaking for most FI kits you can just move it out of the way of the intercooler or even leave it in the same spot.

Why are you thinking of moving/removing it? What do you have planned?

No plans for now but when HKS releases their TT setup I might look into it if I don't get gangbanged on the price. Was'nt sure where it goes when the IC is in there. We'll see.

there are many places to move it to, over on either side of the intercooler will be fine or you can be like me and remove it all....

its only hard when the car is dead stopped, then after you are rolling 2 mph , it feels great!!

Well many times manufacturers use things that are not needed or are just over kill.

BUT !!!!!!!!! This is not the case P/S fluid gets super hot cuz its pressurized and has to travel from the pump all the way to the Rack and Pinion then back to the resivoir un pressurized ( relativily ) Re mount it any where it is safe and secure and gets some circulation.

Without it ud burn up the pump and the R@P and may just boil/cavitate to the point of steering failure

I considered that kit as well because I've heard it's one of the best kits out there right now, but I've always been an HKS fan so I'm anxious to see some dyno numbers on it. Venishas not happy with me right because of it. Guess she just does'nt understand being a man.

I don't think you want to remove. Just relocate it to the side. Here's an example that Ktaylor did:

While on the subject of PS:

-If you remove the power steering as mentioned, and I mean the entire power steering, does this put extra stress on things such as the steering spindle that could evetually lead to damage or broken parts?

Well --I dont know that u can do that ---U have a rack and pinion that has to be driven by a pump. Early Vettes came Power or Manual steering so u could just go one to the other- Manual was better but a bear at stop or low speed turns----R @ P is state of the art. This is something that u just dont consider doing. The proper parts for switch over are just not available

I have heard some people mention removing it and I know that it can be driven without the pump (I did when I had not engine in my Z and had to tow it a lil ways). If it good, bad or indifferent on parts wear wise I have no clue.

Well --Ya ---But if the pump is gone u would have to have a closed loop system. Like I said this is something that is just not as a rule discussed cuz ur trying to change perfection. There would be so many ifs ands or buts.

i have had it totally off my car since about a week after i got it, it is a rack and pinion steering yes, but it steers just fine and hasnt had any problems at all. it is only hard to turn if you are at a dead stop, then as soon as you are driving, it has a great feel to it...

i took out all the parts and plugged the holes except on pipe, i put power steering fluid in there to make sure everything stayed oiled up...

i definitly would like to hear more about this also. You don't think that eventually it will be too much stress on the steering spindle as from the factory the steering spindle does not transfer the turning stress to the R&P but rather to the power steering?
