Default Aftermarket Speedometer and Tach?

I am just wondering if you can install an aftermarket tach and/or speedometer on our cars.

By this I mean is it possible to remove the factory gauge cluster behind the wheel and hook up aftermarket units?

Otherwise, if you removed the gauge cluster behind the steering wheel and completely disconnected the circuit board would the stock multi-function gauge in the 3 guage pod still work therefore being able to show speed?

I can't answer any of your questions, but I have to ask WHY? You're about to ruin one of the most functional, nicest instrument clusters out there.
