Question Timing Belt???

I know we have timing chains on the 3.5L. I was just browsing around the vividracing.com site and came accross a timing belt for the 350z? Is there a conversion to use a belt and if so, WHY? I'm not interested in making the switch, just curious.

I think that's just the regular engine belts. "timing belt" is a misnomer.
You are correct, we have a timing chain on our engines. It's under the timing cover which faces the front of the engine bay.

That's one heck of an expensive drive belt then. Thanks for the quick response. I can rest easy tonight now

The link clearly shows those are drive belts off the crank pulley for the 350Z's a/c, power steering, etc. No details on why or how they are "super strong". The OEM belts (which should be relaced periodically) are not as expensive.

So since we have a timing chain, does that mean we don't have to change it ever? I don't see anything about it in the service manual.

No the chain does not need to be replaced.

The timing chain is considerably stronger and more durable than a textile belt. Its lifespan usually exceeds that of the engine, although I always replace them (together with the pulleys and guides) whenever I rebuild a motor.
