I raced an F150 Lightning -and won by a car length! Problem is, I revved exactly to my redline, 7k RPM shifting into 2nd and the tranny grinded during the shift. I did lift my foot off the gas pedal momentarily, no "speed shifting." I have had 5 cars with a manual trans, 2 Hondas, 2 Acuras. No Problems... The Z seems to not go into the next gear when at high RPM very well.. Is there anything anyone can share that they have done to master clean shifts? And yes, I HAVE seen all the threads on bad trannys....
A warmed up and well lubricated tranny shifts a whole lot better. After changing to synthetics and warmimg it up before ******* it, I had no prblems. The first couple of 1-2 shifts in the morning are always acting like they want to grind still though.
I've found that letting the revs drop just a little between 1st and 2nd helps avoid this. Obviously you pay a slight penalty in acceleration (probably a couple 1/100 sec.) but it's much better than missing 2nd gear.
