There is a company that mods a vk45 from a fx to approximately 500hp. Check out infinitifx.org search the fx45 forum. Most people are right there aren't to many mods for this engine. Here is a little info for you. The compession on this motor 10.6/1. Good luck with this venture.

While looking for an LS2 for my MGB, I ran across these folks. Seems like a really good deal for a 'Ready to Go' out of the box engine;

I'll only allow you to do this if you can fit this 700hp LS2 in the car.

only $18,000!!
(ugh how bought you build the vq and have a much cooler car than some silly v8 hybrid)

Then again its your money, whatever floats your boat.

either way the bigger problem will be having the car HOOK-UP!

even more so w/ the extra weight of a V8 in the front...

Although an Aluminum V8 is a good bit heavier than the VQ35, you can still get "good" traction with the right wheels/tires in the Z with 500+ HP.

If you get the Corvette Rear Mounted Tranny, It should equal out.

Well.. Think of it this way, A Built motor with FI will run you $15-20K, and you risk blowing it all to hell anyways. This is motor that will handle that SC, No problem and probably give you many miles of trouble free operation.

Since that motor is pretty much turn key, (including everything but the Tranny) it is a pretty good value.

I would say to buy that Motor, a Good Tranny and Install it would run you north of $27K.

Actually isn't the VQ heavier(by 100lbs or so) than the LSx engines?

One thing many people don't think about when they are wondering about engine A being heavier than the VQ35....is that a twin turbo vq, is alot heavier than a NA VQ, which I just assume is what you would plan on installing into your 350Z if you decided not to do a motor swap. You have two turbos, two wastegates, two cast iron manifolds, a ton of intake/intercooler piping, the intercooler which sits alll the way forward (though with kits like the greddy kit you remove the front bumper brace and that reduces a bit of weight). I haven't actually weighed it myself, but from what I have heard, twin turbo'ing the 350Z adds about 65lbs to the engine. Just something to think about.

Threads like this are fun, but no one (other than the big names like Topsecret or whatever) ever goes through with it.

If your going to attempt this and have no skill in mechanics good luck getting anyone to work on a cobbled together car. Unless you take it to the same shop that did the work no one will want to touch it if you have a problem.

Actually, an LS7 motor weighs 385 pounds as opposed to the VQ weighing in at around 500.

yeah..i realize this...just saying that people don't realize that adding a turbo kit ads over 60lbs to the engine in our cars. Thats why the RB26 weight doesn't bother me much...yeah its heavier than the VQ but not much heavier than a VQ with a TT kit.

That would be my choice of motor swap also. Plus, i think it will crank out just about as much as a V8 with TT swap would.

Indeed, thats why I'm trying to source a motor now. If I can find one at the right time for the right price all of my current motor stuff will be forsale to pay for the majority of the rb parts
