The ls1+t56 tranny weighs alot less then a ka24de with an automatic transmission And the KA is a 4 banger. Not sure how heavy the vq35de's are though. The pushrod ls1's have only 1 cam, tiny heads, and are alluminum. They are VERY light. Aftermarket is endless, and 450+ rwhp NA on stock cubes is very doable.

The reason that it's a popular swap with all kinda of cars is the fact that they're cheap, parts are cheap, and you can build em for anything. From a drag car, to a high reving road racer. I had an ls1, and loved the motor.

To the person who said just buy a vette. A vette of the same year and milage as a z will cost quite a bit more. Plus the 350z simply looks amazing.

Is that the cost of a straight up swap, custom fabrication, all accessories and configuration? If anybody is going to consider doing it, would be foolish to not grab the JWT cams and springs prior to the swap. Really opens up the top end of that engine.

Too bad I didn't know this at the beginning of summer. I had access to a VK56, but unfortunately that window of opportunity has passed and I blew that $10k budget on a AP Racing BBK and 2 new sets of wheels this summer.

the cobra motor is huge. I don't think that it could possibly fit. fairly tall deck height, combined with extra wide heads, and a 90 degree architecture. That all adds up to not fitting in a Z. Actually, the 4.6 Romeo V8 is physically larger than a Boss 429 Semi-Hemi. Imagine trying to fit one of those in a Z. Not gonna happen!!!
