Droppin in the V8
I remember a while back that someone was talking to them about getting one made. I bet that if you came to them with $10k they would get quite serious about it quite quick. While $10k is a ton of money for even a cast iron block it will still be cheaper than the ludicrously expensive route the OP is looking at.
Maybe the OP will be nice enough to do the Z community a favor and get a company like DART to make a cast iron block. Lol.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but the long block option (I got a price quote for it at $5100) can push 550rwhp depending on the tune, 600 rwhp for the sleeved. Cheaper than FI (after the refund of your deposit) and easier compatibility than dropping in something foreign to the car seeing as this is a VQ35.

Research is awesome, cause knowledge is power...and I guess in this case you can take that literally
I was in your same shoes i just went to a Z06 Vette and its unreal how well they rock the roads with a 1g skid pad and a motor that is awsome also. basic bolton kit FI yeileds 600-700hp then build it you can get built LS6 motors for 3k-5k on ebay. BTW the Z06 is holding me off till new GTR is out
Talked with Brian @ Hinson Super Cars (They do RX-7 and 240sx LS-X swaps)and here is what he had to say...
"We've had a few 350Z requests, and we would like to develop some parts for the car. However, due to our current work schedule, we will need to wait until a customer comes forward for a turn-key build to justify the time investment. If you're interested in having the car built for you, we do offer discounted rates on the intial builds."
My wife would leave me if I sent my car away right now....Anyone ready to give up their Z and get a pretty bada$$ machine. However, I have no clue what they charge and it could be pretty expensive.

This is something that I've thought about for a number of months now. A staff member at Intense has a LSx setup in his Z32 - looks, sounds and runs yummy.
It's not that I'm dissatisfied with my VQ/APS setup, but I'm looking for something different. An LS1/4L80E pullout w/ accesories and ECM for $3 - $4k is tempting. I'm naive when it comes to power upgrades in this platform, but from the quick reads, I've gathered that a set of LS6 heads, comp cam and a set of longtube headers should net 400+hp in N/A form. The next step in the swap is FI (6lbs via SC?). An LS2 config looks to be where I'd want at 400hp N/A, but the pullouts I've found are certainly more pricey.
Fortunately, Dan (owner of said Z32) has been down this road and can identify troubleshooting as we go (new steering rack and oilpan was needed to complete his swap) and is a whiz at wiring. The fly in the ointment that I can see is how to integrate the ECU/ECM electronics of an LSx and maintain the creature comforts within the Z (dash operations, HVAC, etc.). That, and, I'd need to locate a source for custom driveshafts.
I think it's feasible, and to me it's a coin-toss of Built VQ + FI v. mod'd LSx + FI; a custom powerplant setup has a certain allure that's difficult to resist.
Thoughts?

These whole drop V8 into the Z threads realy amaze me. Growing up in KY I see this alot. Its the redneck solution to a good tune and aftermarket products.
"Hey der Billy-Bob dat der Jap car you got is too slow, why dont you just drop a vett injun in er? Whooohoooo! A vette baby yeah that er geit er dun!"
Yeah I just dont see it you baught a Z but want a vett. That reminds me of a friend in highschool who dropped a Grand National engine in a Chevette because he found it at the junk yard and he couldnt afford the GN.
Yeah to me I would say just sell your Z and get the Vett. Its what you want any way your just trying to justify the money you spent on a car to settle on not buying the vett. I mean if this was such truley GREAT idea then why would people do this more. Yeah a **** idea to me. Not a personal attack on you, just a statement to all these LS swap threads.
But if your gonna do it.........
GIT ER DUN!!!

I thought the LSx motors were fairly light?
