Can the RB25 be modified as well as the rb26 can be? Also is the rb series engines legal in California or even the US?

nope.... RB26DETT is the one that you really want (R33, R34 "GT-R" engine).... RB25DET is nothing similar to the RB26DETT...

cheers,

nothing similar? I beg to differ. Where the RB26 is easily the most capable and is a bit different from the rb25 it isn't completely different. There are 3 main differences (obviously there are more but these make up most the power)...the RB26 is stroked out .1L more but uses the same bore and block, the rb26 heads.cams are a bit different and flow more, and the obvious, the rb26 is factory twin turbo compared to the rb25 single turbo. Other differences are the RB26's ITB's, intake manifold design, etc. If RB26 heads and cranks were easy to get a hold of I would have no issues taking the rb25 motorset and converting it to rb26 specs...it would actually be alot cheaper if you were building everything, but like I said, parts like that are hard to come by.

Also good luck getting your hands on a R34 engine...extremely rare, even the R33 engines are hard to get a hold of and are really expensive. R32 motors are the most redily available and even those aren't easy to get.

yea rb26DETT is the way to go if you can get your hands on one. JE Import has already done this swap in a G, and they are about to put in on the market for everyone.

I would go with an RB25. I have recently seen a number of R32's poping up with RB25's boasting some very impressive numbers. Not to mention the fact that the RB25 engine with the transmission from the R32 would most likely be the easiest to install and more readily avalible as mentioned above.

go with a SBF. Use the 302 sportsman block.....low 8.2" deck height. stroke it to 347c.i. It is a super compact motor. run a mechanical roller cam You could spin it to 7500-8000 without any trouble.......oh...and that sound!!!

why do so many people consider the rb26. I see it more difficult to swap an rb26 then a new nissan v8 and sorry to say it the rb wont have nothing on a v8. i know what most will say iron block and all sorts of things like force induction from factory. but the truth is that we know what it does and plus its old technology. Go for the v8 just make sure you put a v8 with atleast 100hp over the Z's motor so its worth the swap my personal choice and that would be more sinply to swap and maybe you wont loose a/c and all other goodies is either the titan 5.7 or the infinniti m45 motor v8 plus with bolt ons and 200 shot your good to go try it you never know good luck in your quest.

just go with a honda K-series motor....add two hamsters with the spinning wheels and there you go...

i'd say the hamster will give you about 600 rwhp.

power of the hamster "twins"

Kit (seriously, do what you want. it's your $$$)

Fairlady Z33-

While I see where you are coming from I think you forget that a considerable amount of cutting is needed in the Z in order to make the V8's from Nissan fit. I believe that you have to cut out the sheet metal that sorrounds the engine right now. At least on Frosberg's car they had to.

I cant believe you can just say one motor is better then the other b/c of two cylinders.

Yes block design, head design, being FI from the factory means alot of things are beefy to start out with, etc,etc,etc...

So I though about this a bit. If you are willing to spend all that money you should contact DART and get a beautiful cast iron closed deck block made and just push unbelieveable amounts of power out of that VQ.
