Sometimes these dealers don't put enough in, which would cause further issues. Beyond that, I generally check once a week at the level.
If you checked weekly then how did you end up 4qt down?

I called the Service Director today to see what he thought about getting an 07 and if he had any definite dates on a fix. He didn't really want to go into getting an 07 and suggested I just wait for the fix. I asked him how long it will take and he didn't know. He said Nissan tends to be faster than other manufacturers but he'd guess 5-6 months.

So, I went on the BBB site and started the Lemon Law process. Here goes. I'll let you guys know how it ends up.

btw, my consumption was noticable after just shortly after break-in, so keep an eye on it and watch for the signs (low level on dipstick, engine pinging, consistent lack of pressure)

Way to go BOFA! Keep active and keep posting. I requested this post to be 'sticky'd'. We'll see where that takes this. There's a thread about 2006 engine recall. Seems it just the same oil issue. BTW - another 2006 owner who didn't know there's a oil consumption issue. Here's that post:

Actually on the first time, I was not checking weekly. No real reason to because I was driving like a grandma

I checked in once I read on here that people were starting to report oil loss.

It is amazing all the useless things that the mods take action on, but they can't seem to sticky the most important issue for the rev-up engines.

WOW! 5-6 months! That is nuts! That is probably accurate though because we have heard talks of this fix for some time. If Nissan is admitting the problem, then it should not be too tough to declare the car a lemon. Hopefully you do not lose too much. They should give 100% in cases like this.

DOH! That would have been a good idea. I went back and reviewed the start of this thread and not sure if this entire thread would be a good idea for a sticky. It started as a possible remedy, which won't work, and then became the thread for this issue.

Bofa. I noticed your post in the other thread about the lemon law and such.

Did you notice the formula for figuring out the "acceptable" use fee?

(Number of miles at settlement / 120000) * vehicle purchase price

I'm curious which route you are plannin to take and if you had to make that decision at the beginning of the process.

Hoping and waiting for them to sticky this thread. I bet more folks will realize they have a problem when they do.

I don't really have to decide anything yet.. not until arbitration. At that point the arbitrator makes a recommendation and if I like it, NNA has to accept it. If not, I don't have to agree to it and can get an attorney to take care of it. In my initial complaint the form asked what I would like done and I posed those two options. I'd also consider letting them settle for $15000... but I don't think that'll happen, although it would be cheaper than them having to buy the car back or handing over keys to an 07. I'm waiting to get the rest of my paperwork and to hear from the arbitrator.

BTW, my mileage is just under 6000 right now, so with the calculation above it won't be too bad.

I wish they'd move it back to the main 350Z forum... this isn't a modification.

Thx. I got the Z in July.

If you don't have the time or patience to deal with it, I can understand that... just keep some oil handy and hang in there until they announce a fix.

O_o i gots mine late may...hmm imma read more of your posts and threads to see how bad your experience is and compare it to mine (but if you have a thread or something that sums it all up a link would be great or how many times youve been to the dealership for this matter ;-D).

i personally didnt have much trouble when i first got the z but then again i barely drove it for the first three months...then i started to daily drive it and wot a lot more and my oil consumption started getting worst....ive gone in for my 3k chk 1 qt down...1k test it was "fine" 1k later it was down 1.5 qts and now i need to go in cuz my dip stick is at the L

i looked up the lemon law for ca....and well i dont understand the conditions of the law, im not not bright....but when it comes to things like laws and what not interpreting it is just difficult

(aww im slow i just looked at your avatar and realized it was an oil pressure guage....thought it was something else...but now i get the joke O_o)

Mine was bought in July as well. Went in for the results of the consumption test today. 700 miles and down 2 1/2 qts. Now it's a waiting game.
