That's the thing about the oil light and/or pressure gauge. It only alerts you when you lose suction from pump pick-up tube = fluctuating or no oil pressure or light illuminates. We all know how low oil has to be to loose suction to oil pump. By that time damage is probably done or borderline to damage.
And speaking of recalls...I think Nissan did recall with their 2006 4cyl Altimas and 2.5 Sentra SE-R's due to OC issues. And those affected customers were also automatically given extended powertrane warranties. Nice huh
The info below doesn't directly say recall, but does say NNA informed NHTSA. I'll bet it was the other way around. NHTSA can and has mandated recalls in the past when manufactures don't step up to the plate. I did a thread a long time ago stressing the importance of filing a complaint with NHTSA with our OC issue.
Amsoil's TSB about the 2006 Altimas and Sentera SE-R's:

And my current V2 Update
Just changed my oil again with 1240mi on that oil interval (1740mi total on new V2) and was 8mm down. That = 1qt/3720mi. Hope it improves better than that. I normally change oil at 5K when I run 100% Synth which I plan on doing later on. I could live with 1qt/5000mi OC I guess but this V2's not there yet. Hope time, a song and a prayer gets me to that threshold. Been very nice to engine and still not going over 4K on rpms.

Z's have no VIN number ranges for the 05 and 06's affect for models listed on that TSB.

this is my second replacement engine. just got an oil change today after 3000 miles and i scheduled for a oil consumption test. this would be the second test for this engine. but anyways before they replaced my engine oil, they measured the old oil and they said the engine burn about 1/2 qt of oil after 3000 miles. for me it seems that its still too much for a new engine. any input?!
im going back after 700-1000 miles for the OC test.

Still too much for a new engine? IMHO....yes, though I've heard this can be normal with some of these and does improve over time. Perhaps this may be your case, hopefully. Some don't have that issue at all and some still complete failures...why is that?
Know two V2 owners personally that has improved over time with basically no further OC issues and better than your current OC + one that hasn't. Hoping mine improves as well for you and others in the same boat.
Now, being mine just drank 8mm (1/3qt) in the last 1240mi with 1740mi total on fresh V2, have to say I'm not all warm, fuzzy and smiling with my current V2 replacement yet. Would be feeling a lot better if I were one of those V2 owners with apparently no OC at all with their fresh V2.
G/L with your OC testing.

My V2 follow up so far...2nd oil service
Greetings,
I had 2nd oil service with 3880 miles on the oil. Presently have 7025 miles on the new long block. The oil level only went down 2 or 3 mm. Driving included trip to San Diego and some serious high speed mountain driving in AZ.
So far it looks good, but I'm still checking the oil level every other weekend!
Good luck to you all, talk to you later...
Joe

Out of curiosity, how did you break in the engine and what kind of oil are you running? Also, at what mileage was the first oil service?

If you have an extended warranty, you may need to get that transferred into your name.
