RevUp Oil Consumption TSB and discussion
Add me to the list.
Now here is the kicker: I have a 25th Anniversary AT (non-revup) that has oil consumption issues. Burnt through 1 qt in 600 miles
Thank god for Nalley Nissan.
After I get this taken care of, then it's off to the body shop to get a new bumper after a valet ****ed my car up.
When it rains, it ****ing stormz.

Well. here is a quick update. Its Saturday eve, was at the dealer first thing, had ruler and photos of my dipstick readings in hand, loaded for bear ya know. Left the car over night so its was cold, told the clerk that I want to be with the tech for the reading and accidently gave her my keys. Next thing I know I see a tech get in my car, so i run out and stop him before he takes it into the garage. He says the parking spot is not level, I requested to be with him when he measures it, he agrees.
So the rest was terribly easy. He brings me in the back, opens the hood and takes a look. We keep talking about the car, he says its normal for cars to burn oil, i agree as long as its maybe a quart betwen oil changes not like this car. he agrees and keeps checking it, maybe six times. He says its "low", I ask him if hes going to measure it and offer him my ruler, he says "no" its "low". I ask does "low" mean "fail" and show him the TSB chart. He says "yes" and I left with them telling me they will order me a new engine and call me.
It still feels weird that I got no paperwork but I have to trust the Tech. He says he has a lot of paperwork to fill out but i will get a new engine. I coached him to put in 12mm of loss and showed him my readings. Extreamly easy, almost like they expected this result.
I'll update when I get a definite comitment date for the engine swap. I think I won

Mine had "no reading" on the dipstick at all. This was little bit less than a 1000 miles after a fresh oil-change which is when the trial started. My oil consumption has gotten worse and worse over the years. The new engine goes in tomorrow. Wish me luck!

John
Just got my car back after the engine swap. The tech told me my old seals were already leaking. Now the painful 1200-mile break-in period. Other than 1) don't full throttle it 2) 'don't rev it beyond 4000 RPM, 3) change the oil within 800 miles, 4) use non-synthetic for the first few thousand miles so that the seals settle, are there any other recommendations from those lucky ones who got good positive results after your swap?
Any feedback is very welcomed and appreciated.

^Good to hear. That's what breaks your valve-train cams/lobes in correctly.
Good wishes on success with your V2.
My V2 currently is a fail by TSB standards but slowly improving as the miles continue :crossing fingers:

Well here is an update.
Failed oil consumption test last Saturday
New engine arrives at dealer next Tuesday
Scheduled to have it installed on Monday 7/28
Hard to belive it all happened without any fuss or hassle. They must have gotten an instant approval from NNA and had the replacement in stock in the US.

Question:
Is the oil that Nissan first puts in a new engine some kind of special oil that's formulated for helping the engine break in properly?
... or is it just typical off the shelf crap.

Yup...same here. Dealer filled with Castrol GTX 5w-30.
V2's are shipped dry. Only thing in them are all the assembly lubes from assembly.
Don't know what kind oil when shipped from factory on new vehicles for sale on dealer lots.

So... am I making a mistake buying a 2006? I have only put a $200 deposit on it, seems worth it to tell the guy to keep it and back out before its too late. He didn't mention any oil consumption, and i think I asked him about it... I will make sure I ask tomorrow...
Any advice? Do all 2006's do this?

My v2 engine hasn't been consuming after 6k miles. I hope it stays that way.

Another dude on here with a successful v2 didn't change his oil until a little after 3k. (correspondence via PMs)
I was wondering if there could be any link to early oil changes and the possibility of that keeping the rings from breaking in like they should.
Common sense says no, but with all these engines using the same exact parts, the only difference between the failing engines and the successful ones seem to me to be the way they are being broken in.
