Definately find a new dealer. I brought mine in and they changed the oil and filter and said to bring it back in 1000 miles. It was outside the TSB so they ordered the new engine. Didn't even have to go back for multiple reads.

Ok seriously all this means is that the dealership does not want to deal with the red tape that comes along with replacing the engine. All you need to do is go to a larger dealership, they are just going to BS you until you either go away or you blow up your engine and then you're SOL will not be covered because you let it run out of oil. You're just going to have to travel to find a dealer that will do it. They are required per the TSB to top off the oil so they will know how much has run out in the desired mileage. (which is required to be around 1k.) Hope this helps where are you located in florida?

Did you check your VIN to see where the motor falls?...Might try another dealership or get the regional rep involved if you're getting hosed.

 

Hi all,

Just wanted to let everyone know that my v2 engine replacement, so far, seems to be working fine.

Got it replaced at the end of January. Put 1200 miles on it using the Nissan suggested break in (1200 miles, under 4k, no cruise control). Got the oil changed at 1500 miles. Before the oil change it was about halfway down the dipstick.

Confirmed that it was full after the oil change. I have put on about 2k more miles since then (I don't drive much). Checked it today at about 3400 miles and it's still at the top of the dip stick.

Since I don't put much mileage on it I get the oil changed every 3 or 4 months. I'll be having it changed next month.

So far so good. Just wanted to let everyone know.

does anybody know whats the total number of people that have had oil consumption problems with the 2006 350z. or at least an estimate of the number of people.

 

^ Is there a poll somewhere that shows the numbers of successful vs. failed V2 swaps (in terms of no-more abnormal oil-consumption)? Just trying to get an idea of the statistics. Thanks a lot.

 

Rough estimate from memory... maybe 1/3rd successful? 1/3rd pending, 1/3rd in various stages of additional engine replacement/arbitration/buyback.

Also, there's no real way to know how many of the cars out there have oil consumption problems, since I really think the vast majority of the owners have no clue how to check their oil.

I wouldn't be surprised if over 3/4ths of the owners have the issue, but only a select few are informed enough to actually see the signs.

 

I'm pretty sure if it was that widespread, a recall would be warranted.

I respectfully disagree. That would cost Nissan half a billion dollars to replace every engine in the 2005 35th anniversary addition 6MT, every engine in the 2006 6MT, and every engine in the 2005 and 2006 G35 6MT. Only dealing with those that push the issue is much cheaper, in time the warranties run out and Nissan is off the hook............. maybe (a good attorney and class action lawsuit that proved they knew about the problem and played dumb might result in a financial settlement)

It could be 3/4, could be just 1/2, who knows. They are oblivious to the issue. As most have stated, the oil light virtually never comes on, you have to have practically no oil for it to show, and sometimes even then it doesn't. so who knows how many are affected.
