Always a chance.. I have owned 2 separate z's with replacement v2 motors. Neither has lost any oil after the motor replacement.

ive seen multiple members that have had more than 1 engine replaced. I would definitely keep an eye on it, or even take it to the dealer and start the oil consumption test. From what ive read, they seal all the ways you can tamper with your oil level, even the dipstick, and you drive for 1000 miles then go back to the dealer to test the level. For your sake, I hope your engine doesnt consume! Good luck

@reality350 and Boogshag,
Thanks for your help.
I just checked my oil level, and it was around 2 mm from the H mark. I have driven it about 500 miles since I bought the car. I assume the dealer filled it to H.
According to https://my350z.com/forum/attachments...tion-graph.jpg, that is "no good range"? :O :O :O
I hope I assume wrong Ω_Ω

Yea theres a chance the dealer wasnt exact when they changed the oil. Hopefully youll have no problems! You should really be able to tell after the next 1000 miles. Look for differences beyond the 2 mm. Good luck!

According to NNA rep who inspected my Z before buyback. The oil consumption is caused when you donwshift. The term he used is blow by.

Haha, I was given that BS too when mech and I were talking after I picked up my V2 swap. I said oh really, well then why doesn't the non revup 6mt's have this problem humm? He didn't answer lol.

It contributes, but is not the main cause. Blow by = oil past rings, under acceleration too duh.

Thumbs up thanks my350z members

I'd like to thank all the members that contributed to get all the information on the TSB together in one post.

Thank you ZeeForce, 9kFever, gothchick, dbasal, 06CPV35, and anyone else!

My dealer called today and informed me that they are replacing the engine under warranty because of the oil consumption.

I doubt it would have went anywhere near as smooth as it did without me having the information from this thread.

Thanks,
Jared

^ Glad this thread helped you out and appreciate the acknowledgment. Thanks.

Wow you mentioned some old timers like myself. Tells me you probably read everything in here. Kudos to you in doing that. Very wise.

Jared,
Thank you for the kind words. I am glad some of my writings have done good and made the process much smoother than in the early days before the TSB came out. I do not keep up with this thread much but do answer all PM's. I got wind of this post from a good friend (John) 06CPV35 whom I could not have written the first page of this thread without. Special thanks to John for continuing to advise and provide an insight to the oil consumption issue.

Good luck with the freshly built engine and remember a used oil analysis is your best friend.

Cheers
Curtis

Just got approved for an engine swap!! Almost 2Qt loss in 1K miles?!?! New engine should be here this thursday, i will keep you updated on the progress and how the new engine breaks in and feels. I guess they are doing the full Long Block now, I had read earlier in this post that some people were getting only a short block replacement. This is what the head GTR tech told me, and I luck out.. he's doing my engine swap. haha Ill check back soon!! thanks again all for the great info!

Good luck. I took great care in breaking my new engine in and am over 10k past the swap. No oil consumption. For first 1200 miles - No hard acceleration. No revving past 4k (maybe not even 3k for me). No constant speeds fast or slow. Conventional oil change at ~200 miles, again at ~1500 miles. After 1200 miles of grueling, boring driving, I eased into higher revs and harder acceleration for the next couple hundred miles.

Before the engine had 2500 miles on it, I took it to the track. probably not the best idea but it worked out for me. I switched to synthetic at ~3300miles.

The earlier swaps were supposed to be long block replacements as well. Good luck btw. I've been dealing with this crap for 2 years now, and am on block #3... If it fails this go around, I'm using the Lemon Law...

This may be a stupid question but, I will be going in next week to have an Oil Consumption test done on my 06 Z. The next week I am going on vacation for a few days and will be driving the Z. Round trip will be around 1000 miles and I could take the Z back in to have the oil checked for the test. Here is my stupid question, when going on a road trip with normal driving and not much shifting (compared to normal around the city driving with lots of shifting and stomping on the gas) will my Z still burn as much oil ? Right now with normal around the city driving the dipstick is down 10mm in 1000 miles. I ask because I dont want to pass the test and keep my old motor. Would I be better off doing the test with normal city driving for 1000 miles when I know it burns 10mm ? The problem with around the city driving is that it will take me almost a year to put on 1000 miles. Thanks

^It's been found by many over the years here, myself included with my oem VQ, that looong fwy/hwy trips suck the oil faster than puttin around town with city driving. Higher rpm's = drinks oil at a faster OC rate.
