Yeah, that's very true. Whats so sad is that they would be dishonest about it. It all circles around the mighty buck. Next thing is to take my G to a certified Infiniti service shop (not Nissan) and have them check it next oil change. I got the extended warranty, just as the standard warranty was about to expire, so I'm covered to almost 100K, luckily.

Has anyone heard of the GTR having any OC issues? I'm curious. I haven't been able to find anything on the web as of yet.

^I just checked all 2009-2012 GTR TSB's and didn't find one on oil consumption.

The VR38DETT is a true hand assembled engine in a clean room. The VQ will never compare to a VR.

Yeah, the good part is that the car I just bought was always serviced at the Nissan dealership with all the records, the bad part is the owner said he had never heard of any oil issues and Nissan never told him anything about low oil...

Has anyone found a good potentially thicker oil that they use to reduce the oil burning?

I've tried 0w-30, 5w-30, 10w-30, Dino, Blend, Synth. They all burn the same in my replacement give or take a quarter quart per 5K miles. Only viscosity I haven't tried is a multi 40.

^ Yes heard of it and read a lot about it over the years. You can accomplish the same thing for your engine by running a 50 or 60+ viscosity oil. Not a good idea imho.

Hey guys, I just recently bought by 06 Base a hair under two months ago with 20,000 miles and was told by the previous owner "no, no issues with oil consumption" but me being as trustworthy as I am decided to just believe the guy and yesterday changed my oil after about 5000 miles to find only 2 quarts left in the pan. So today around 4 I'll be going to my local nissan dealer to start the consumption test. Hopefully something will be resolved with time. Any pointers with this situation?

i doubt nissan will ever escape this problem.. until they start using better engines. from what i heard on here guys with the HR still have the issue just not as much. all reality DE was supposed to be great, they used it for a few years then when they beefed it up in 06 they ruined it. and since then oil consumption has been an issue.

Google Nissan oil consumption. You will find it is in almost all VQ35/37s to some extent.

I am replacing the entire rotating assembly, unless it's the block I hope to have fixed the issue.

I told them I was a lifelong Datsun/Nissan owner and this was the last I'd buy. They don't care.
