I took my car in to get the levels checked for the first time. They said it was near the high mark. Of course this is because i just drove the car in and was out of the dealer after 15 minutes total. When i got home i waited for aout 15 minutes to let the car sit and checked it myself and it was near the low mark. i called the dealer back and just said it needs to sit for some time before you check the level since that is what the manual says. Of course they give you all that BS and stuff. Anyway i requested that they drain the oil and take the measurement. We'll see when i go back there.

you have over a 1k posts...and you ask this? how the heck do you have a thousand posts and ask this....

but yah its in the car manual....both parts to your question have been answered and asked numerous times....

break in is around 1k-1.2k and change the oil to whatevever your preference is and what you believe it "better"...

and about the accord...thats sounds like a bunch of BS

you didnt check it before you took it in the first time

also if you go back there another day or soemthign....try checking the oil with a cold motor then with the motor a little warmed up...

Not that I believe anything my dealer told me since they can't read a dipstick, but they did mention something about "break-in" oil. At one time they even mentioned it was synthetic. Not sure what the truth is, but from talking to the Tech Specialist, I believe that the break-in is not as important as people make it out to be.

Case in point, many people that have 06s broke it in differently, but still have this consumption problem. I followed the manual's recommendations. If I get this new engine, I will not drive in any special way during break-in. In this day and age, the break-in the manufacturer just puts that in their for their protection.

This is just my opinion.

out of consideration for your engine .I def can see the point in a break in period. And would highly recommend . I mean its common sense.

I remember seeing in owner's manual it says that you dont have to change out engine oil before the first service interval, which is 3,750 miles. However, lots of owners change it out right after the break-in period(1,200 miles).

The oil consumption is hit or miss. My car was builting in October 06, so far I have noticed little to no consumption and I am at 6600 miles. I would buy it if it is what you want, and if you do have an issue with consumption, I would hope they would know how to fix it before you have 50k miles.

Well all...guess what? I just got my car back and the engine was sent straight from Japan and it only took 3 days to get to Northern, VA/DC area. I dont know where you are but thats quick by my shipping standards. That car runs good. I put 500 miles on it over the weekend, just so I could slam it in 3rd to feel the rush. When I back up with agression, I hear a clicking sound...almost like the tranny is a tad lose...taking it in to get checked out, but honestly I am looking at the dodge Nitro and the new LR2 or used LR3. I have a 1978 CJ5 that I am restoring with a 350 bored .40 over. Its weighs like 2200 lbs, so that will be my thrill seeking transportation. lol

Dont get my wrong fellas and fellettes...I absolutely love my 05 6sp G35. It handles like a dream, gas is sweet on the highway, the 285/35/20 on the rear made the world of difference!

I just love my car too much to see it damaged, in the shop, or sitting in someone elses garage. Its that bad for me. Downtime is not an option. The more I read, the more I get upset at one of my dream cars being a total disappointment to all of us. I appreciate what everyone has done here, you all truely are a gift from God. When I took my car in, I had so much AMMO, that telling me it was my fault, wasnt an option. I will continue to update you all on my new engine, before and if I sell the car. I say "if", because everytime I get in it, it feels so good...lol. I had a kid at a car show on sunday ask me to pull over so he could take a picture of it.....Now that was cool..lol... it will be a sad day if she goes.

thanks again.

This brought a tear to my eye.

Good luck on the new engine. If all goes well, don't sell

Well I thought I was safe but I guess I need to be added to the list. My oil was a quarter above the low mark and I have 1500 miles to go before next oil change.
06 purchased last sept. 23,231 miles
I haven't done to much research on this because I figured if all was well at 15,000mile I should have been fine. Have any of you guys noticed that it gets worst over time or does the oil burn rate stay about the same. Are the piston rings going to wear down or is the oil just managing to seep through?

Default yeps shes a burnin it

I posted earlier that I haven't been keeping an eye on my oil consumption but I started after stumbling across this thread I have used about 1 quart in 2000 miles, I know that is just a drop in the bucket compared to some but that is still to much for me, I am considering trying to go this weekend to get the process started for the oil consumption test

so if its a bad seal with the valve? what if I rebuild/upgrade the head when I build my motor? think that will stop it?

Well my service advisor heard back from Nissan today about my consumption. I have known this man for years, he worked at Mazda when I had my RX-7 twin turbo, and we have mutual friends. He has always shot straight with me. He said Nissan acknowledged to him there is a problem with the rev-up 6MT, and that they are working on a fix. They officially logged my car in as a problem. They told him they have a fix comming soon, but didn't reveal a date. He said the issue according to them is the pressure blow by situation, and he said there could be new engines as a fix. He also acknowledged their comment that Nissan had stopped with new engines while trying to determine the cause. I have no reason to doubt his answers....... now whether Nissan was straight with him is a different issue all together. I am going by tomorrow for them to top it off. Since this started for me, all oil changes and topping off have been no charge, small consolation considering the problem. I love the car, and have a 7 year 100,000 extended warranty in addition to a very good attorney. I am probably going to wait a little while to see if they can indeed fix this problem before I throw in the towel. He sounded encouraging, but Nissan could have been blowing smoke up his a**, I guess time will tell.

You can always look on the brite side.

Like somebody had mentioned here before, sure some of the Z's use too much oil but at least the motor is always getting fresh oil added in between oil changes

I had an interesting conversation with the head mechanic at my dealership today. My car is consuming and they have registered it with Nissan as a consumption issue. He told me the regional rep was just at the dealership and stated they are aware of the issue and are going to produce a fix. I don't know if all of you are aware the Altima recently had consumption issues as well. My mechanic stated that the engines are all assembled by machine now. Nissan finally figured out on the Altima, that the machine that placed the ring on the piston was slightly warping the ring in the process, not enough to be noticable by the human eye, but it caused the rings to not seat properly. Once they figured that out, they replaced the machine. The regional rep didn't say whether that was the issue with the Z, but stated a fix is coming soon. He also stated that they were aware replacement engines were not fixing the problem, and until the cause is corrected, no new engines were being offered. My mechanic seems to feel the fix will be new short blocks or long blocks, once Nissan has discovered the cause and produced a fix that allows for proper ring seating. Just wanted to pass along what I was told today.
