Default Built Z Motors review..

I have completed the break in of my engine and everything is working good. Todd from built z motors is very good to work with. I had good communication with him all through out the process. My car took longer than expected but the machinist working on the heads called them “The heads from Hell”.

If anyone read what happened to my car in the past the short story is the dealer would not warranty it and I got it back in pieces. Todd built the engine and put the car back together. He really knows his stuff. This is actually the first time i have really paid anyone else to do engine work for me. When I added up the cost of parts and machine work at local places, I would of saved maybe $1,500 doing it myself, but I also had to pay for a new block due to mine being trashed. When the connecting rod came off of the piston it tore it up pretty bad inside. So now i have a 06 Z with 7800 miles on it with a built engine. In a way im happy i blew my engine up, so now i need to save some money to turbo it, but i will do that work myself.

If anyone needs a built engine I highly recommend Todd at www.BuiltZmotors.com

Are you NA or FI? If NA, how does the motor run? Any noticeable change in performance?

Idle is like stock with the cams, cant even tell they are in it untill you get around 4-5k rpms. It seems like its dependant on the tps from the ecu when the cams change thier profile. There is a big change in performance with the cams, i also have full exhaust from the headers back with no cats. I used some sparkplug foulers in the rear o2 sensors to get rid of the check engine light. Those things are a pain to drill holes in even using a drill press. The foulers are the 18mm ones if anyone needs to know. You need 2 for each o2 sensor. Way cheaper than buying the o2 simulators, they only cost 9$ for 4 of them.

The cams do not trigger a check engine light. It is running rich though so I need a tune, hopefully ill be able to get a baseline dyno next week sometime. The engine runs smoother than stock because its all balanced. Gas mileage went down quite a bit so thats how i can tell its rich.

I'm having major oil consumption issues with the used stock block I purchased to replace my built longblock (I'm N/A now ). I'm seriously thinking of doing the same thing you did and ride around on a built block until I can afford F/I again.

So it doesn't feel sluggish with the lowered compression?

LoL hell no its not sluggish. Its way faster than stock even untuned. If todd posts he will say it too, he said it felt way more powerfull than a stock engine with the cams. Going from 10:3.1 to 9:1.1 is maybe 7hp loss. But i have headers and no cats, cams.
