AN fittings sizes?
I've been looking for more info and specs on these things. I see that there are a lot of different applications, bends, threads, shapes, female to male, male to male (sounds like a Springer episode) and so on.
I know there are different sizes like -6 -8, -10 etc. I haven't been able to find a chart that says what diameter houses they fit, specifically the outside dia. of the hoses.
What I'm looking for is a simple AN clamp size that fits over a hose that has a 1/2" outside diameter and another size that fits a hose with a 3/4" diameter.
I'm installing a few things over the holiday and I'm going to be using those cheesy a$$ ricer clamps for now, until I order my Pithon clamps in a few weeks and get the appropriate AN clamps, to replace the cheap clamps..

I have used both Earl's and Aeroquip and each is a little different. You'd have to check in a catalog to match up with what you want. Any performance shop should have one handy for you to see.

Yes dress up but not the cheesy hose clamps with cheesy fake covers.
I want real hose clamps, along the lines of this....

I only need 5 or 6 of them, the other hose clamps will be a Pithon clamp kit.

I have never heard of an AN clamp. AN hose ends are designed to attach to other AN fittings. I believe it is a special 37 degree seat where the male meets the female. Also, AN theads are a straight thread.....You should be able google this stuff. IIRC, a -6AN straight thread requires a 9/16 - 18 tap to cut the threads.
If you search for it, the AN system was made up for use in the US miliatry. I believe that the A comes from Army, and the N comes from Navy. They needed a universal sizing system.

well since nobody said sizes they are pretty simple 4 is for 1/4" 6-3/8" 8-1/2"12-3/4" and so on AN fittings are the same as a JIC fitting but just in aluminum where the seal on the seat and not the threads like a regular pipe fitting
Yes the Army/Navy sizing is based on external diameter, but if your going to use them on regualr hoses you'll need to take them to a shop that has some in stock and match them up. The 1/2" OD hose is AN -8, and the 3/4" OD hose will use AN -12. But, the inside diameter varies for each manufacturer. The fittings are to be used with the corresponding hose size from that manufacturer. Hence, a -6 Aeroquip will have a different ID than an Earl's -6 fitting, even though they have the same OD. So, you could use an AN fitting for your hoses but keep in mind they are designed to correspond to a particular hose made by that manufacturer. Try Earl's at a local shop if you can find them, as they're cutter design will work with a regular rubber hose better than most I should think. I also think it's an all around bad idea and you should do it right if you're going to do it and just replace the hoses as well... but different strokes for different folks.

completely agree ^
the great thing about the AN fittings it the bevel design of them...they simple will not leak, ever
be prepared to whip the wallet out...fittings and lines get very expensive, very quickly
