I think it would be a lot more handy if people would state their question differently, ie - you want more power right? To what end? What performance number are you actually looking for? Do you want sub-5 second 0-60's? Do you want handling performance or just flat out forward performance? Do you have a specific 1/4 mile time you're looking for? A lap time at a local racetrack that you've seen a porsche do?
I understand wanting 400hp, but to keep all that on the road you'd also need upgraded brakes, a completely upgraded & bulletproofed engine, as well as new suspension, safety equipment, tires (in spades), etc.
I'm just saying that if you honestly do just want 400hp, pop in a NOS and you're done. If you want a faster/better 350z theres a lot more to it than a simple hp #.

I wanted for a 350z and I was about to buy it. But yesterday I went to the GMC dealer and drove the Z06 Vette (405 HP). Man !!! That thing fly !!! But I liked it more the body of the 350z.
So, here in Mexico the Z06 price is 9,000 dlls. higher than the 350Z. And thought that may be with less money than that I can give 400 HP to the 350Z.

Well 400hp to the crank would approximately equate to a 340hp to the wheels (Using 15% loss). So from some of the dyno's I've seen on this board that's about 100hp to the wheel. Some TT coming for the Z33 claims to push about 90hp+. However I doubt we will see them soon as all the turbo set-up are in testing phase. No word on how they are tackling the OBDIII computer that the Z33 has. Also once you do TT set-up, there are other considerations as to how much reinforcement the motor would need or how much the motor could take.

Are you sure a Z06 is just 9k more? I purchased a Enthusist for 29K + tax and lic so lets say it was 32,500 out the door. A friend of mine purchased a Z06 and told me by the time he paid a lux. tax that it was about 65K. So even if it was 60k, that is 28K more. Maybe others will correct me on the Z06 price. I know what i paid for the Z of course.
Another issue is dependability. Maybe people will argue with me but I do not have faith in GM products based on their long track record. I actually believe I trust a Nissan with a turbo (with low boast) than a GM. Most Nissans go over 200K (especially a VQ motor). I am ready to take on flames if needed. To me, the C5 is the only Vette worth admiring as far as a well balanced sports car. To be fair, the 350Z is a hugh step above the other Z's too in handling. Actually, i like the Vette, M3, 911 as well as the Z. I just think the Z is the best value among the group considering performance, price, and long term dependability as well as cost of service. Most likely most will agree because this is a Z website. I am sure my opinions would not be well recieved on a BMW or chevy site.

I think it will be difficult to get the Z to a Z06 power level with 9000 in modifications (other than Nitrous) and still have it as reliable as the vette. To me it seems like adding a turbo or SC is really the only way to get that much power from the Z, and to do it reliably seems like it would cost pretty close to the price differential. And then you still have the superior handling of the Z06 to contend with. If you truly can get the Z06 for 9K more than the Z, then it might be a better choice. I think most Z06's are closer to 20K more than most Z's, in which case there's quite a bit more mod money available to get the Z to the same performance level.
I know that if I could have gotten a Z06 for only 9K more than my Z, then I probably would have (I am a huge Z06 fan, though).
Either way, you'll have a damn fine car!

Strange world isn't it ? Just for your information here in Mexico the Z06 standard (50th anniversary) price is 53K and the 350Z price (Touring Model) standard is 44K.
Bad luck to live in the 3rd. World !!!
On the other hand I heard that the vette is going to change the body in 2004.

Here in the US the vette coupe is about $10K more than the 350Z and the Z06 is about $20K. Of course, options on either can make a few thousand difference so these are just round figures. I seriously considered a Vette coupe. I don't care for the Z06 body style. There is also a big difference in insurance and maintenance cost. Those steamroller tires on the Vette cost a lot more to replace. I also expect the 350Z to be more reliable and hold it's value better. There is a new Vette coming next year but the pictures I've seem are not pretty. For me it came down to getting a new 350Z or a 2 year old Vette. There was no contest.

who knows how the Zs get to mexico... I would imagine that jacked up the price significantly, but america has free trade with mexico and canada last I checked, meaning you dont have that charge on a corvette. just something to think about.
also turbos that we look at will be charged tariffs to go into mexico. Id say go for the Z06, your paying alot of tax on the 350Z. for us, its not that simple, its not that your paying less for the Z06, your just paying a whole lot more for the Z.

I really apreciate your support guys, your comments have been very helpful to me. I think that with a few mods like intake, exahust and SC I can get about 370 hp. I think is good enough. But the most important thing is that the vette is going to lose very much value with the time.

350z is suppose to be a track car, not a dragster or 1/4 miler. You could probably do it with polished cold air intake, titanium exhaust, twin turbo, and air flow manager. But ofcourse I'm just speculating.
Also you'll need wider wheels and weight reduction. But good news with all this it'll still be under $50k. And can whip a 911 on the track.

How did you read my mind? I got 265's on the front, 295 rears and I am shooting for for 400hp ans planning on TT or SC plus other upgrades.

I don't have a 350z
but I put down deposit for convertible in July
by the way, how do you like those tires? I was thinking of 245/35 and 275/35. your are little wider.

What can I say about my tire size and be objective? Yes, I love the bigger size. Honestly, they look great to me and there is no problems such as rubbing. 275ft/295 rears were used on the SEMA show car and lowered with Eibach with no problems and driven for weeks. So from a problem standpoint, no problem. From an apperance level, that is a personal chioce but I love them IMHO.
The last criteria would be performance. It seems to me that to really make a logical choice, a performance test with the same brand tire with various sizes would have to be tracked to know what is the best track/performance size. It seems that cars such as Z06 vettes and 911 turbos tend to have tires equal to my size tires. Maybe the stock 350Z does not need as much tire with only 287hp? Again, I do not have track comparisons to measure it (does anyone have real data beside most people are going 245/275?). I am personally going to put a TT or SC on my Z anyways but I like my tires sizes with or without TT/SC.
