Default 350Z Quick Shifter is done - OH YA !!!

Ok Guys and Gal,
Sorry it took me so long to get this out to you….
As promised, the 350Z Quick Shifter is done. There were going to be 2 versions, (SS & Ti) but most of the replies that I received asked for the “Titanium” one. Yes, the whole thing is made out of Titanium. You can check out the pictures and the video at http://www.rallitec.com/Q-Shifter/ .

I have installed the first two I had in 2 Z’s this weekend. So I am ready to make more.

Some of you asked about the price, well….. here is the thing.
I can make one at a time, but it costs too much for the material, setup …etc, so if I buy the Titanium in a 10’ x 2” length it is much cheaper. So… if I get an order of 10 or more Q-Shifters of a same kind, I will charge this:

Titanium 275.00 Shipping included in USA & Canada (Ground)
Stainless 200.00 Shipping included in USA & Canada (Ground)

I will warranty the Q-Shifter against faulty material and breakage.

If you have any questions, I will be more that glad to answer them. For those of you who sent me PM’s, already, I will get back to you by Monday night, - just too busy

Dweeb.... question....

I know that you have just installed 2 this past weekend... and you probably have 1 on your Z....

What is the feedback -- from these people and you as well.... regarding the "feel" ... of your Quick Shifter ??

thanks

How much shorter than OEM do you need/want?? Is this like 10% less throw, 20%?

It's gone from 4.2" to 2.7" or 6 I believe?

He said 50%.

Count me in on one.

Well, the feel is more solid, as the rubber is removed from the shifter. Also it is quicker , there is no noticeable "more effort to shift", maybe a smidgen more¡K
As for others that have it in their cars ??. My friend and his boss love it. The 2 people I installed it on the weekend for ..???? don't know yet. Hopefully they will post their comments here soon..

Errr......it's "Titanuim" , actually it is quite a lot faster, just a flick of the wrist/fingers to go from one gear to another. It has a better more positive fell to it (just my humble opinion, I like a bit notchier feel) as the rubber components are removed from the shifter shaft, and it is stronger than the "cast" stock shifter

Default First Impressions of Titanium ShortShifter

I'm one of the lucky ones who has one of these in my car.

Breakage..? What breakage? Before I installed it, Dweeb made me test its strength by putting it on top of two 2x4 and jump on it as hard as I could using my whole body weight, and all it did is making some impressions on the wood. During installation, he also showed me pieces of the shifter linkage which were less weaker than the shifter it self. I'm convinced the shifter won't break.

As per the installation, it was pretty simple, I did it myself while Dweeb was present offering some guidance. The hardest part was when you go underneath the car to undo the rubber boot & the one bolt.

Well, as per the feel?, it's quicker, it doesn't need more effort to find gears, it just simply feels natural. As much as I don't like to mod my car that much, this one is definitely a must mod!! Overall I am very happy with it.

Dweeb...DeAnn... thanks for your feedback on the "feel"....

Sorry... 2 more questions...

1/ Does the height of the stick shift remain the same as stock ?

2/ Mechanically, what does your quick shifter do .. to make the shift throws shorter ? Quite an impressive reduction !

thanks !

The only way to shorten shift throw is to move the fulcrum point. Physics says that there is no way to move said fulcrum point without increasing effort.

BTW, why titanium? It's nice to have a bit of heft in the gearshift mechanism for positive engagement.

I put a short shifter in my MR2 Spyder and took it out a week later. I hated the much higher effort.

The height of the stick remains the same as the stock one. I can make shorter or longer, but it's just perfect the way it is.
As Raceboy mentions, I move the "fulcrum" pivot point. It’s that simple, but boy, does it make a difference.

Why Titanium ?? Why not.!! Plus you can always say "I have a Titanium Shifter" Just kidding. It is lighter and stronger than steel. Also the SS one is heavier than the stock one.

The stock shifter is fairly light to begin with (they have a lot of rubber in the center piece), I have used/tried both the SS and the Titanium one in my car when I was developing this.
As for the shifting effort, if you install it according to my instructions, it will be less than 10% harder to shift, hence the choice for the titanium, you don't need to move the extra weight around.

Sorry to hear about your Spyder "experience". maybe the shifter wasn't designed well...

Hope this helps…

Just wondering, do you g35 folks have your own website? It might be interesting to see what goes no there!
