Default Swapping engines?

I was looking into engine swaps for the Z and was wondering what the seriousness is behind the whole situation. How difficult is it to do a engine swap? If someone could just give me an idea of what to expect about problems that would occur or the budget you would need to do this.

By the time you pay for the supra/skyline motor, in addition to labor and other miscellaneous parts, you could have a fully built VQ motor. Which would be more reliable than either of the two.

How many supra/skyline owners make 400rwhp at 7psi of boost? How many make over 400ftlb with the same psi? Stick with the vq, you will be happy .

I made 416rwhp and 434ftlb at 8psi. I ran it like that for over 15,000 hard miles without a problem. Its all in the tuning dude. People have blown supra motors also, with failed tuning. If you spend the extra time in a decent standalone you will be fine. People now are making 500rwhp+ and there are several that have made over 450rwhp without any issues.

A skyline motor will run you about 6000. Add another 3000 for labor and wiring(maybe more). Then you would have to custom parts made etc.... You will spend most likely around 15k for everything. For that price, you can have a fully built/tt vq`for about 20k.

Yes, I see your points for the VQ motor but in the long run you will have a pretty unique and rare Z.

IMO i think it all depends on your goals as far as power goes. if you are looking at building anything over 700rwhp, you might want to consider an engine swap.

I would suggest the vq30det not the z32 but the one that came in cimas and laurles here. Easy pull 600hp out of it and use mostly stock parts for it to.

I have seen and workes on a pile od RB and 2JZ swapped Z's. Ill tell you why there were so many of them in japan.

NOBODY could make any power out of them at the time. Infact its the guys in the states that have set the bar for tunning these.

Like posted above if you cant stand the VQ get a LS1 and be done but dont ***** when you go to swap and nothing works, fits, runs, cant find parts, and sits for a year or so. Thats usually what happens with these swaps.

I had a friend who put in an SR20 in his Z... Just because he had spare motors around and was bored... it ran great, was a nice ride...

But, you can do alot with the VQ, but you have to be prepared to spend the $... If you cheap out and just buy the basic kit and not put the money into it that you need to, it will pop...
