I have been in several threads disccusing oil so I felt I needed to make a post for M1 users. I am not bashing M1 just hoping to educate my fellow VQ people.


After I started to track my car, I began looking into information about the best oil to use. During my research I found several examples of M1 showing high lead content (bearing wear) in used oil analysis on Vq35 engines.

I know M1 is considered to be the best oil, but it never was a good oil for the Vq35 engine. Another reason to not use M1 would be that it is no longer a true synthetic. Several months ago they changed their formula.

Mobile1 is no longer a true synthetic

Mobil sued Castrol for calling their oil a full synthetic. Which according to Mobil it wasnt a full synthetic like M1 since its not made from a Group IV base stock.

They lost the case, so they decided to start using the cheaper base stock just like Castrol,pennzoil etc. Why make a real synthetic that costs you more money to make then the competition who is charging the same price for their fake synthetic?

German Castrol Syntec 0w-30, Amsoil, redline are some of the few remaining TRUE synthetics( Group IV). The other Castrol syntecs, penzzoil platinum and now Mobile 1 are not TRUE synthetics. They are hydrolocked Group III oils.

Here is an example of how even yellow bottled Pennzoil Dino outperformed M1 in our engine.



M1 used to be a great oil, now its an overpriced fake synthetic. My current fill is German Castrol Syntec 0w-30 (auto-zone only). Unlike the other castrol syntecs it is a true Group IV oil, here is an oil analysis on a G35 coupe. As you can see this oil shows very little wear after 7500 miles.

how would royal purple fall under these conditions.

 

Hmm.. interesting information. I use M1 myself. Maybe I need to step up and start using Motul or Royal Purple..?

 

I believe it is also a true synthetic. How it effects your engine can only be check by oil analysis. Give German Castrol a try as you can see it produces very little wear in our engines.

 

Try German Castrol syntec 0w-30, great oil and I can show you more used oil analysis of how much our engine likes it. Dont let the 0w scare you! This oil is almost a 40 weight when its at operating temperature ,The old M1 was closer to a 25 weight even though both are labeled a 30 weight

Yes, Amsoil is great oil. I have never used it, but will give it a try soon.


I would says German Castrol is right up there with Amsoil

 

what about russian castrol oil. lmao jk...i never seen german oil. And would laugh if i said at pep boys..do u guys have hizen castrol oil lmao. But is this available widly.I only seen syntec everywhere which is ther prize oil. I been using royal purple, so far so good on all my previous i say as long as its g4 then ur at a point where its just to close to call. But G3 oils for everyday use is perfectly fine also. I mean it all depends on the persons application .

 

yes actually the plain old dino oil these days is very good. I just made the post to let M1 user know that they are not paying for a true synthetic. There is also a Belgium Castrol Syntec, I have never seen it.


Autozone is the only place that carries german Castrol syntec which is a group IV oil unlike the rest of the castrol syntec line.

 

Just go straight to the top. Motul group V. Type V is used in every jet engine in the world. It does not rely on oil pressure to lubricate. It is polar and attracted to metal. It will protect your engine with zero oil pressure. Group V is esther based and is contains no carbon or sulphur. It is synthesized from natural gas.

I've also noticed when using Mobil1, that my oil consumption has increased slightly.

 

+1 on the oil consumption with M1, the search for a new oil has begun, lol.

 

this is very interesting about mobil 1,i never new it was not a true synthetic.well its time for a change to the german castrol or amsoil.

It was a true synthetic up until some months ago, however it was never a good oil for the Vq35 imo

 

I could get Royal Purple or Amsoil down here, but the shop I go to only has Redline. What do you think about Redline for VQ35?

 

Dont want to tell you something I dont know for a fact but I read somewhere that redline is more of a racing oil and doesnt have the addictives to make it a quality daily driving oil.
Amsoil is one of the best I would not hesitate to get that.

Hey derek, since I use Mobil1, this info is valuable to me. Thanx for sharing and like other that already commented, I'll be searching for new oil. I'll look for the German Castrol that you've talked about. I'll also have to think about putting out more cash for Royal Purple (maybe).
