Default Getting My Tranny Replace =D

I own a 2003 Nissan 350Z and I am getting my transmission replaced because of 5th & 6th gear grinding and making weird noise. It's getting done on Tuesday , March 13th.

I am just wondering how many miles do I need to put in it to brake it in, before I red line the car? Is it the same as like a new engine? 1,200Miles?

Or it does not need to brake in at all?

I have an '06, my tranny had to get replaced.

You will feel that the new tranny will be notchy and tight. Give it some time, it will loosen up, and powershift awayyyyy

On my 3rd tranny and every time they said to take it easy for about the first 500 miles or so. But they also said in all reality they are "pre" broken in from the factory so no special attention required. I'd play it safe and drive normal, just don't beat the crap outta it 'till after about 500 miles or so.

I had to get my tranny replaced at around 35,000 miles. I swear they should recall that POS. Anyway, I took it easy for a few hundred miles to get all the gears smoothed down. It would be best to avoid friction among brand new, hot expanding metal gears by over-revving. Maybe they pre-broke it in, maybe not. Whatever the case, I'm sure it wasn't pushed to redline at the factory. I say have patience. Like a brand new baseball mit.

how come there're so many issue with the Z transmission? I also wanna watchout for mine.

When you said the transmission is grinding, is it make weird noise after you shift into gear (...you shift, let go of the clutch, the shifter is in the gear that you selected, then it make noises)?

Or, It just make noise during the shift into gear...like when you move the shifter into the gear slot, but it make noise before the shifter is completely in the slot?

I guess the easier way to ask is, what is the symptom of grinding transmission?

Just asking out of curiosity? What have you been quoted for the tranny replacement? If you don't mind.

Actually they'll break more things than they fix, and introduce a few new rattles just for good measure! Ah.. love those nissan dealers
