I had 2k on it before storing, drove about 500 over the winter, and 1.5k so far this summer. Castrol Euro synthetic 0W-30 is the oil.

= 4000 miles = good representative mileage sample = do a UOA imo.

Great. I was just concerned about the sitting for prolonged times. Wasn't sure if that would mess up the information.

so based on the number of samples tested on a particular oil and number of TBN and if changing oil every 3000K..the mobil 1 5W-30W is the best for 350Z then since it's TBN is relatively high for the number of sample that were tested? is the mobil1 5W-30W a synthetic oil or conventional oil that was tested?

Default castrol syntec >> mobil 1 v.withUOA

same exact driving conditions, driving to and from work about 20 miles each way, 15 of that highway driving. and a lot of city driving on the weekends. redline it probably every few days.

castrol syntec is the report of the left and mobil is the report on the right

the syntec was run for 5200 miles and the mobil 1 only 3750.

i don't think i'll ever be using m1 again.

Look at the wear numbers on the M1 and the 5W30 synthetic doesn't compare so well. If you went off TBN alone, Redline 5W40 looks good, but that's only a small part of the story.

TBN is a measure of the oil's base, and is a strong indicator of how much additive is left in the oil to fight acids and sludge build-up. The higher the TBN, the better suited the oil is for an extended drain interval of longer than 5k miles. M1 5W-30 has a strong TBN. It has mediocre to worse than average wear protection. It is a synthetic based oil. I wouldn't use it- there are better options for the money. See Syntec vs M1 5W-30 UOA posted above for a good example.

Looks good. Syntec is good stuff, and all of the weights reported have done well for wear in the DE and HR engines.

The TBN is getting low. I only have one other UOA on this oil form the DE engine, so it's hard to say where you might want to draw the oil change line. Give the 7500 mile OCI a shot if you want, and if you get a TBN, you'll know where the oil change limit is with this oil. I think 7500 miles will be about all you'd want to do with this oil in the DE.

Yeah, M1 5W-30 and 10W-30 haven't been anything impressive, especially for the cost. The Syntec weights have all looked much better in the VQ. However, one formula isn't indicative of the blending which occurs across the whole brand. While their 5W-30 and 10W-30 isn't very appealing, there are other M1 blends which are blended very differently and perform much better in the VQ.

Thanks for sharing your UOA. Good to have another ASL on file. I'd nit-pick the flash and some other minor areas for improvement in a normal UOA from such a premium oil, but considering the track duty your engine sees it looks really good.

Wow! 5 track days? Are these road-course track days or drag strip? My Penzoil Platinum's viscosity is being sheered down with 1 road-course track day.

Not bad for that oil being 1.5 yrs old either.

Have that Amsoil in my VQ now and waiting for my SynPower 5w-30 Analysis.
Will post SynPower UOA once received.

Valvoline SynPower 5w-30
Some low rpm detonation starting near end of this OCI (hot summer ambient temps)
4,850 miles on this stuff.
11,300 miles on revup VQ TSB replacement.
Comments welcomed.

In service now is Amsoil's ASL 5w-30.
Taking that to ~5K mile OCI as well.

Cheers

Thanks for sharing. Makes me want to see the Sequence IVA test results they based their advertising claims on.

This is from my 2006 G35x. 5341 miles on Quaker State Q Horsepower 5W-30. Any thoughts? Should I be worried about my iron?

Iron is totally normal for the mileage. This looks like a great wearing engine, with good UOA results from this oil. Viscosity is a very thin 30wt, but still in grade. Flash and TBN look good. I'd keep running it and stick to a 5500 mile oil change interval without any worries.

Thanks, Will. I am running Rotella T-Syn right now. Depending on the uoa, I might switch back to the Q.
