You think so? ... then watch the car go boom?

He read the side of the car, then the info on the website.

Guys... seriously. Just slapping a turbo on an engine built for an NA application is going to be tougher than you think. There are components in our engine that aren't going to take well to large amounts of boost.

It SHOULD take .7bar tho, thats not that much. after that you start pushing it, but the engine isnt a delicate flower or nothing, it has some strong internals, lots of maximas have been boosted with no negative effects.

I'm Sorry you did not read the post above yours but the info didn't come from the side of the car. To claim people are ignorant with such a ignorant post is a shame. I have Two RX-7TT's one with 400rwhp, I know what it takes to do it right. I found information that alot of us have been looking for at a respected source and wanted to share it with others. Sorry if you don't want to hear it.

Yeah... but there are TWO components of OUR engine that is INTERNAL... that is different than the Maximas.

Sadly, its these parts that will need upgrading when boosting. Ironically one of these two parts is one of the Z32s falicies.

I have to agree with ares... I don't think the engine will be coming apart at .7 bar (that about 10psi), but I would be leary about dialing it any higher than that.

I can't wait to see what GReddy actually gets put out. I'm already saving my dough so I don't have to charge it! WOOHOO!!!

I hope it turns out the engine can handle a bar or a bar and a half, that'd definatlly set it way ahead of any other present production car. When Japan builds a RWD or AWD car, turbo or that can handle a lot of turbo power, think about it— Supra, Skyline, RX-7, Silvia those cars are divine in the import world. The WRX can make HP in the 600's too. I realize I'm rambling.

I actually havent seen a WRX over 500crank hp without MAJOR modifications, but then again, I havent been looking too hard.

You might be right, I haven't been looking that hard either I just saw "582hp JUN WRX" on the cover of a super street I got at the airport a few weeks ago.

Can I ask a stupid question?? I know nothing about trying to turn a NA engine into a turbo or super charged engine, but what could be the differences over an engine built for forced induction?? Is it lower compression pistons, different gaskets??

The crank and rods seem like they would have to be pretty stout in this motor already (???). So what I am asking is why don't people just do whatever internal mods the engine needs to put it on par with an engine already designed for forced induction? Maybe I am oversimplifying the problem but if somebody could shed some light on this issue, that would be great.

Thanks.

the Z block is open head aluminum, high boost engines require stronger rods, shafts, pistons, sleeves, and cams. as well as often times a solid alloy block. I beilieve the supra had like solid steel or something crazy heavy like that.

its those sorts of things that limit it, tho it will take some, just not crazy 20PSI like some of these I4s and supras can take.

dude... wtf?

Since when are you ***** on the corner?

How about showing more respect to those who KNOW the car...

Forged pistons?!?!? LOL... Don't you wish.

If you know so much... think about what plagued the Z32. Ironically enough the Z33 has been hit with something similar.

Most modern NA engines are open "Deck" - this allows far better cooling of the engine when running higher compression. Sadly when going under high boost, the walls tend to break down... and crack. Hense BAD for turbo apps.

To take a VQ and secure it for high boost + 1BAR you're going to need to at minimum replace the rods and rods bolts (there is your two parts damnit)... Then while you're inside the motor, lets run forged pistons... more importantly with lower compression to avoid detonation.

No need to resleeve the block... and the factory cams will be fine.

Makes sense. Thanks Ares.

PS. I passed a Supra in a parking lot by me with a for sale sign on it. The guy was asking 15,500, but when you got close, it was beat pretty bad. Paint, body damaged, interior was worn pretty good. It's too bad though because it seems like that car is a find if you can get a clean one. Oh well.
