How much damage?
Just got back from the dealer after my first oil change, 1,700 miles. I had a few questions which were pretty much blown off. That's why I rarely buy a new car. Anyway, I had not heard the valve tappet noise for a couple of weeks. Now, it's there again. No way am I going back to the dealer, he'll just say 'what noise' or 'that's normal.' Yes, I always use high octane, 91, gas. The noise appears when accelerating with the rpm about 2500. How much damage am I doing - Is this normal - Anything I can do to eliminate it? The dealer said he uses 5W30 Mobil.

Ok, let me ask this in a different way. It's a 6spd, so when I'm cruising along at the speed limit, 70mph, the rpm is well below 3,000. If I want to pass, pressing on the gas pedal causes valve related noise. In reality, I'm cruising along near 80 to keep from getting run over. However, it seems that under normal, legal use my tappets rattle. Anyone else have this problem? Or is it a problem?
What happened to your 6000mile engine? Was it an '06? Don't get me wrong, I love the car. However, in my experience (I'm old) valve noise gets worse with mileage. If I can hear it at about 1700miles that's scary. Roadster drivers will never hear it, nor will people who always have the radio on. Mines a coupe without the Bose system, so I usually just listen to the car.
Retainer ring came off of the wrist pin at 6k miles, causing the piston to come off of the rod and tear the block up. The dealer said it was from abuse. The official warrant denial was it caused a lean condition from an aftermarket muffler. Wich if it did the piston out of still been on the rod not off of it.
I would take it to a diffrent dealer if i were you and make them get in the car while you drive it to hear it.

The dealer is in the city with no highway for hi speed and lots of other car noise. I might have to wait to see if it gets worse. It's almost like it had something to do with their oil. I hope their not using some cheap oil.
