Default Any way to avoid aftermarket pulley squeal?

I recently bought a UR underdrive crank pulley. i've read that alot of people have problems with these things squealing and eventually take it off. I was just wondering if this is installer error or something that just comes with this part. It doesn't seem like they would develope and market a product that squeals. Anyway just wondering if this is going to be inevitable.

I read very little about the pulley itself squealing - it's the belts that are making the noise when they are too loose. I've had my UR pulleys for almost 3 years & have changed out the belts once & have never had any belt squeal - just gotta make sure the belts are tight, then after installing them checking them again after a few weeks for correct tension. Just my .02 cents

1. make sure they are tight
2. i've heard that maybe new belts will solve it
3. belt conditioner from kragens will clear it up...temporarily

I have the UR crank pulley, and I LOVED it when I got it. The engine revved faster and the car, overall, felt faster. A few days after, the pulley started squeeling. I called GT Motorsports(the installer) and they tightened it and there hasn't been a problem ever since. BTW, I've had the pulley a year and a half.

FSM= Factory Service Manual. It really helps.

IMO, the pully is not worth the trouble, the lack of power to the A/C and Alty.

the crank pulley by itself doesn't drain power from the alternator or ac does it?

Mine didn't squeal for almost 2 years, now I adjust it like a billion times, I've changed belts and it still squeals every other startup for a few seconds. I think I need one of those belt tension gauges so I don't overtighten the belts. the FSM talks about a belt tension gauge but whenever I goto an autoparts store to buy one I get a WTF face from the clerk. Ugh

well I'm just gonna get it installed and hope for the best. I deffinitely like the idea of the engine revving faster. I think this along with the mrev2 and the crawford headers will really put me where i want to be as far as power goes (kinda)

I have seen/hear them squeek, as long as the belt is in good condition, and properly tensioned. Hope that helps.

I hate to question the man but do you mean that as long as the belt is in good condition and properly tensioned it wont squeal? If so, how often do the belts need to be tightened?

hehe..typo..sorry about that. They WILL NOT squeal of belts are in good conditions and properly tensioned. The belts rarely need retighening. With a fresh belt, I would check/retighten after a week, and then you should be good to go for a long time.
