Any way to avoid aftermarket pulley squeal?

I'd take it to someone who's experienced installing several pullies.
The belt changes elasticity when it's cold/warm. So sometimes it has to go through heat cycles, and I forget if you're supposed to tension it while it's cold or while it's warm... but a pro should know what to do.
(Basically if you tension it while it's cold, it could get looser when warm. If you tension it too much when it's warm, then it will be way too tight when it's cold)
Some people will say it's an easy job. Others will say it is damn near impossible. I suggest going to a pro.
