Default 2006 Oil consumption issues

Guys not to beat a dead horse here, and yes I have searched other threads pertaining to this,(no flaming necesssary), but what I have been unable to determine is this a problem with all the 2006 models, or is it hit and miss, also has Nissan acknowledged this problem formally by way of a tsb? I have a 2006 gt and my concern is I will not see the problem due to low mileage before warranty runs out(When is this problem apparent, initailly or after thousands of k?) I live in the north and car is snow bound and parked 9-10 months of the year...My dealer refuses to acknowledge there is any issue with this model whatsoever,,,any info is appreciated...

hit and miss from what ive read.

ive got almost 20k on mine with no issues. IMHO i think its due to not breaking the motor in properly. i let my car warm up almost all the way idling at my house, then i let the motor idle for 1 minute before shutting it off.

Yeah, search there is a lot of info on this. However, I believe it is limited to the manual tranny w/ the rev-up motor. I don't think Nissan's officially TSB'd it, it's more on a case by case basis. If you have > 10k miles and no sign of oil consumption you should be fine.

first of, i bought my 06 with 50 miles on the odo. broke it in til like 3k miles and i mostly drive in traffic so i don't get to break it loose often. Just went to west covina nissan (great place) last weekend to finish up my oil consumption test they confirmed that my engine was burning oil... 2 qts/1400 miles. they said that nissan is aware of the problem and are working on fixing it. they should have a fix by june so i'll be getting a new motor =) the service dept said they are not replacing anymore motor until nissan comes out with a fix. i wish they would just replace it with the 07 hehe. i currently have 12000 miles on it right now.

I babied my car for the first 1000 miles and it still burned. After I got my new engine the service riter told me to just drive it normal. So far so good.

Mine would run low on oil before 3k. low enough to hear the valves..ya I know. Anyways I never got an official word on what was wrong my dealer just said they needed to do some testing and a few days later I got a new motor.

thats what im trying to figure out, if their switching the motor to a new rev-up, why are they predicting that you'll have better chances with the new engine? did they make any adjustments to the new rev-up? i have an 06 rev-up which ive bought in january of 06...so shes one of the first of that year. how can i tell if i have the problem or not? i just get my oil changed every 3500 miles and drive normally. i haven't heard any weird noises or etc. i check my oil once a month and it looks fine

The problem appears to occur with just the rev-up engine. Therefore , no automatics would be envolved.

I haven't seen any statistics as to the percentage that have the oil problem. My service manager(I give him high credibility) said they have 3 that they are following of which one is mine. I'm guessing they sold about 40 of the '06s and if only half were rev-ups, it would mean about 15% with a problem and less if they sold more. This is a calculated guess only.

I ordered mine from the factory and was there when it came in. I think the odometer had 12 miles on it. I did not go over the recommended 4000 rpm limit for the break-in period and followed the manuals recommendations.

I first noticed the drop in oil before 3500 miles in August and I think it maxed before 10,000 miles at about 1 qt/2500 miles. I now have 21,500 miles on the car and it now using oil at a 1qt/5500 mi. rate, but I have been driving more conservatively because of the winter weather. The weather has changed so I am on a new consumption test at the dealer to see what happens.

The main, oil issue thread on this site is best source of info on the variation in the problem and possible reasons or potential fixes.
