Default Power tolerences for Auto trans

Hey,
I'm a pretty spirited driver and plan to flog and hammer on this Z as much as I can within its limits . Of course if I knew what they were at this point.

I do run the occasional Auto X / Track days and will also be power modding the Z as much as possible before heading to one of the FI units down the road.

Prolly gonna be the Stillen SC or Turbonetics single T

There is a local shop here I will be turning to down the road (you may have heard of them) CIN in Charlotte NC.

Good group of guys with some strong build history. Just no ECU tuning support ... yet.

So what will the Auto trans handle? What upgrades for the transmission are available or recomended to allow it to handle Spirited driving and increased power?

Thanks
BP

Mods : JWY Intake ((w/Heat soaker shield))

Plans: Plenum Spacer/ Test pipes/ Full Exhaust / ECU re-Tune

Autos "seem" to be surviving upto upper 300's of torque relatively well.

You absolutely need a valve body and a tranny cooler...

Survival vs acting near new is often the question as is ultimate life.

Unfortunately there is no formula for exceeding oem specification and reduced life.

Based on history of JATCO designs expect the 150k life to diminish in big steps but still 50k or 100k might be satisfactory.

Change the ATF frequently and keep in below 190F.

How long do you want the AT to last?

Luckily the oem ecu reduces torque significantly prior to and during shifts, changing this timing for faster shifts can add significant stress if ecu returns timing to rapidly.

Default auto 350z

I drive a 2004 auto z. and im planning on geting a greddy TT in about a month or so. their is someone on this forum running agreddy TT setup in his auto with no Valve Body upgrade or torque converter upgrade. but i would at least get a VB upgrade to be on the safe side. with a VB upgrade it sould be able to handle 450 HP/TQ or more. you can get a VB upgrade from: Stillen, Forged Performance, Z1 motorsports, and SGP Racing. And the only place i know of for a torque coverter upgrade is SGP Racing. And as far as the stillen supercharger or turbonetics Single turbo go, you'd probbably be better off with a TT setup for about the same price and be alot happier in the long run.

Will you be happy with 30-50k after conversion tranny life depending on the number of WOT runs you do per month?
The VB body has nothing to do with the strength of materials or the clutches.

Default vb upgrade

the VB upgrade makes the shifts smoother in manual mode and in regualar automatic. in some cases with FI on an auto with no VB upgrade in auto mode not manual mode it cant shift because of the poweroverload. but with the vb upgrade it allows it to work better in regular auto mode.

so where can i get a tranny cooler for my auto? I saw some people are running B&M but they didn't have any specific one for the 350z they just had one tranny cooler. Is it a one size fits all type of thing?
