Default Possible link between prod date and oil consumption?

In attempts to find some logical explanation for the oil consumption issue on the Rev Up engines found on the 2005 Track/Anniversary 35th Edition and all 2006 manual transmission models, I am asking owners of those models to contribute to this thread.

I simply cannot comprehend that a brand new car would experience this type of issue. Especially since owners are not provided with a concrete explanation from NISSAN. There has been speculation of faulty rings or seals, blow-by, etc. But still NISSAN does not provide us with a logical explanation and some owners are given the run around on the situation.

I am trying to see if there is a connection between the producation dates and the issue. We all know it is limited to manual transmissions. If you have a 2005 Track/Anniversary 35th Edition in manual that is experiencing the problem feel free to join in. But from what I am reading and hearing it is only the 2006 model year that is affected. So this leads me to believe that it is a certain "batch" during production has the defective engines instead of all production vehicles across the board. I am asking owners of the above mentioned vehicles to post your experience. Even if your car is not consuming oil and you still own one of the above models, the information can still be helpful in narrowing it down to certain vehicles.

Please include the following information -
Year:
Mileage when you noticed the problem:
Current Mileage:
How often/how much: How often and how much oil does it consume?
Remedy: Was it fixed? Engine replaced? What was the dealership's attitude towards the problem?

Thanks in advance to all who contributes to this thread. I am asking you to limit the posting to only the above information and feel free to post updates if you are currently in dispute in efforts to keep the thread "clean". Mods please sticky if you feel this thread may be helpful to other owners. All additional comments please direct it to the already established threads.

Mileage when you noticed the problem: 1000
Current Mileage: 4500
How often/how much: How often and how much oil does it consume?
Frist 3k 1/2 quart last 1500mi 1/4 quart.

Remedy: Was it fixed? Haven't done any test
Engine replaced? No

What was the dealership's attitude towards the problem? Since it not that bad I have not brought it up, but I did mention the problem with the 06, they say they never heard of it.

Mileage when you noticed the problem: No problem (yet)
Current Mileage: 3100
How often/how much: 1/8qt ~ 1/4qt per 1000 miles.
**Changed oil three times during the 1200mi breakin period to get rid of the "breakin" metalic crap floating around in the oil (yes, there was some *glitter* on the dipstick). Changed that **** out pronto. Now I'm doing oil changes every 3,000 miles. Dino oil only until after 10K miles, then I'll be going full synth.

Don't you think Nissan is keeping good records?

I had an interesting conversation with the head mechanic at my dealership today. My car is consuming and they have registered it with Nissan as a consumption issue. He told me the regional rep was just at the dealership and stated they are aware of the issue and are going to produce a fix. I don't know if all of you are aware the Altima recently had consumption issues as well. My mechanic stated that the engines are all assembled by machine now. Nissan finally figured out on the Altima, that the machine that placed the ring on the piston was slightly warping the ring in the process, not enough to be noticable by the human eye, but it caused the rings to not seat properly. Once they figured that out, they replaced the machine. The regional rep didn't say whether that was the issue with the Z, but stated a fix is coming soon. He also stated that they were aware replacement engines were not fixing the problem, and until the cause is corrected, no new engines were being offered. My mechanic seems to feel the fix will be new short blocks or long blocks, once Nissan has discovered the cause and produced a fix that allows for proper ring seating. Just wanted to pass along what I was told today.

Both. Check oil in AM on level ground before starting. The slashed area of dipstick = 1 quart. Dealer does it, I guess, by measuring what comes out.

14000 miles on my 06
took a hard turn and my oil light flickered on.
Dealer changed the oil today and will check at 1000.
Explained others are having issues as well.
I guess we will see what happens from here.

I have heard rumors that Nissans potential oil consumption fix may involve a ECU reflash of some kind...

Does anyone know anything about this?

BTW I had an engine replaced too. And now that its all broken in, this new engine has significantly less TQ across the RPM spectrum and 5-8 less HP above 4500 RPM.

I hope Nissans new fix doesn't adversely affect HP in any way.
I would really like to find out why this new engine should be so much weaker than the prior engine.

Angry Second time with this problem!

Year: 2006

Mileage when you noticed the problem: ~9,000, and again at ~23,500

Current Mileage: 23,500

How often/how much: How often and how much oil does it consume? 3 quarts in 5,300 miles

Remedy: Was it fixed? Engine replaced? What was the dealership's attitude towards the problem? The first time it happened was at 9,000 miles. The dealer was very cool about it, said it's happening a lot, and that the remedy was to replace the long block, which they did. Now at 23,500 miles (14.5K on the new block) my NEW engine is doing the same thing. All the sudden, my oil pressure was low, the engine was rattling, and yet the oil light did not come on. Just like the first time. The dealer said I was 3 quarts low. Now they are saying Nissan is "working on a fix" and that they should have an answer by the end of July 2007. They believe the solution ultimately will be to replace the short block.

I called Nissan USA to get more info and to make it clear to them that I do not expect to ever have to pay a dime out of pocket for this defect. I'm supposed to get a call from the "regional rep" soon to discuss it further. Obviously, my concern, as is anyone's, I imagine, is that eventually it'll be out of warranty and I'll still be having these problems. The key here will be to have Nissan extend the warranty on the new engine.

In the meantime, the dealer instructed me to just keep topping off my oil every 1500-2000 miles.

It's truly remarkable to me that this issue has been going on for a year and they still haven't figured out how to fix it. I'm not holding my breath that July will reveal an answer.
