Default Rev-Up oil consumption has suddenly decreased

A bit of background: I have had oil consumption problems with the rev-up
motor in my Z (35th Anniv 6-spd). For the first year of ownership, the
consumption held pretty constant at 1 quart per 1500 miles. There would
allways be a sooty buildup in the exhaust tips after a long drive. Once
I hit 5000 miles, I decided to switch from conventional oil to Mobil 1.

Here's the strange part: After the switch to Mobil 1, my oil consumption
has decreased dramatically. In fact, I just completed my 3rd consumption
test at the dealer, and I am now consuming about 1 quart every 3500 to
4000 miles. The sooty buildup is gone too.

Here's a breakdown of the consumption and what oil I was using:

ODO 1000mi, Conventional 5W30, 1 quart per 1500 miles.
ODO 2700mi, Conventional 5W30, 1 quart per 1600 miles.
ODO 5000mi, Mobil 1 5W30, 1 quart per 2200 miles.
ODO 6500mi, Mobil 1 5W30, 1 quart per 3750 miles.

In addition, I have not changed my driving habits. If anything, I have
driven the car harder during this last consumption test, and the oil
consumption keeps decreasing. I really don't think it is the piston
rings breaking in, because that should have happened well before 7,000
miles on the ODO.

I allways use the same Chevron 92 octane gas.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be happening? Im extremely
happy with the results, but I don't understand why.

'conventional' is not what you need to tell people but the oil weight you were using. if it was the same, then I guess it would come down to the additives in the fuel?

there is a separate thread on 06 -6mt rev-up oil consumtion (48 pages) you need to check out......very depressing...I seem to recall hearing that for most changing to synthetic increased the consumption. I have a 06 with 14000miles still using conventional 10w30 using about 3/4qt every 3k miles
