350z motor swaps
[QUOTE=DXJP]
...What's the point of swapping a newer, more highly advanced VQ over an old VQ?
Swap VQ30 crankshaft for less stroke but it's not an good idea to replace the whole motor. It's going to be more involved than you think. The stock 350z VQ ecu needs to be in car to be operable as a street car. It's not a plug and play swap ...

HEll you could by the whole R32 for that now. Hows this the VQ30 DET for teh win ( not the old z32 but the gloriya/ laurel engine) sell the rb to a fan boy and still pocket some cash. New pistons and rods and your there for 600hp. It comes with the piston coolers just like the RB and its already a turbo. The 3 liter that can. You could do a big single or a tt and be finnished. With the big single space might be a pain. But you could still build a tt 3.o for less than 10g and not mess up the car.
Still supports the Z trannie and harness. Comes with a fuel return and your Z intake will fit. Dosnt have the VVT but who needs it if you go after market ecu and the heads flow as good as ported N/A heads.

i could never justify selling my rb for a vq... you might make a valid point but i jsut couldnt do it in my head.. i spent alot of money on the motor.... i am contemplating uying my neighbors z32 and putting it im there instead .. i love the way the z33 drives n/a and i would like to keep it as a daily driver. oh and what does it matter if it comes already turbo.... my rb is still twin ..i honestly cant rememebr but im pretty sure its got modified signal turbo's... dyno it put out 456hp.... i will grab the spec sheet from the shop tommorow.
I don't remember what magazine it was, but some guy put the 4.5L V8 in his 350Z. It ran identical, and sometimes slower than a stock, rev-up VQ. Its substantially heavier and doesn't have the HP to make up for it.

600whp ~ 14K
v8 swap with everything working
about the same if not more, and that doesnt include building it or turbos.

Give Jeremy at Perf. Factory a call. There's no reason why a shop should charge that much. IMO Forged Perf. prices are outrageous...: Then again that seems a bit too exaggerated to me.
I love the sweet smell of free enterprise, and competition

7-800whp isnt 600 bud.
there is a big difference, 600 very little head work is needed, stock sleves are still good for ya, stock greddy kit is plenty enough of a snail and utec is what it would be tuned with.
5800 - greddy kit w/ic install kit yourself
5000 - engine
Utec - 1000 with all the crap including bcs
install and tune - 2k
clutch - 1200
gauges and misc - 600-1000
16-17k with everything new and installed and tuned.
i bought my kit for less than 2k used and missing parts
utec 700 with map selector and map sensor
greddy bov, aam oil pan spacer and return lines and injectors
new spark plugs
all missing parts sourced out for less than 300
jwt clutch and fly sold cheap by sharif
aem uego 240
I have all the best stuff and a completely like new tn kit now for under 3K
with motor and tune and upgrading to a gt40r ill still be less than that stock rb26 installed.
anything's possible.....but trust me.....it' GETS EXPENSIIIVE

question. I'm in a bit of a predicament here. I have a 350z shell that's all done up, but with a blown motor. Don't ask. I can get a vq35 motor that belongs in a z for 2k. or, should i drop a few more bills, and get an rb26 with rb25 tranny swap? What's better in the long run? You can' beat on how more tuner friendly the rb26 will be of course cause it's FI. What's better, and how much does it cost to do the rb swap on a Z, in a reputable shop, in SoCal.
