Update: My Build, Ultimate Goals & 1 CRAZY Day in Utah
Alright, I figured it was about time to go ahead a let everyone in on what we have been working soo hard on preparing my car for these last 6-9 months……
I will be taking the Z out to the Bonneville Salt Flats and attempting a documented high speed run on July 16th. This is the beginning of the AKA Rally, but will be run to the standards of the 200MPH club. The goal will be to exceed 200MPH for 1 mile.
So in order to achieve this we have been working on the car for a combination of safety and stability along with trying to ensure as much reliability for the AKA Rally that week. The Rally will start from the Salt Flats on the 16th and go to Atlantic City, NJ the following Sunday. If anyone is interested in running their cars on the Salt Flats I believe it will be open to the public for a nominal fee (Contact the organizer of the AKA Rally for complete details).
I think everyone knows I have GTM’s 4.2L stoker kit with their Stage 4 heads and Turbo Cams. This has been conservatively tuned by Sharif at Forged performance on about 12 PSI (wastegate pressure). We have run that for a while and feel very confident in the engine and the supporting mods over the last couple of months. We will be putting in a automatics’ 3.3 FD and removing my ATS 1.5 way diff for this speed run because the 3.5 will probably max out somewhere around 190 mph or so.
Special attention has been placed on safety and reliability for this event. We have added a custom 6-point removable roll cage, harnesses, and a 2 stage fire suppression system for some extra security. Concern over the quality of gas will mean we will have 3 different maps. The 12 PSI (wastgate) will be tuned for 89 octane gas. In conjunction we will use methanol whenever possible to help reduce intake temps and reduce knock. The second map will be designed for 93 octane gas (street map) and run somewhere around 16 – 18 psi. The third map will be for C18 gas running somewhere around 20 – 22 PSI and only used for dyno pulls/ racing and in conjunction with the methanol kit for extra safety.
I think most of us will agree this car/engine is not designed for this type of abuse… But I think will all of the prep work and hard work by Forged Performance, we will be successful in hitting 200 mph in the coming weeks. Because of the extreme nature of the Salt Flats and the abuse we are going to put the car through, we will try to ramp up the speeds and keep checking everything between sessions.
Wish me luck and keep your fingers crossed I don’t ball up all of this hard work put into the car over the years.

As for the cage, only the front bars are bolt in. The rear hoop and supports are all welded in. I just did not want the front bars in all the time.
The guys who did this build custom tube frame cars and 10 point cages for SCCA and NASA. WE know it does not meet their regulations, but it is as good as he can do within the confines of a street car. It should be fine, and is certainly better then nothing in a convertible....

Brent and I have been discussing this for weeks. There will be several test runs, gradually building up speeds, and data logging as we go. If anything feels funny...we stop. I am not too concerned if something breaks....but much more concerned with Brent's and my safety...more than anything else. I told Brent I will ride-along up to 160mph...but the final pass is all him!

I can't wait to see this in person as I wil be there as well in the Rally (not in my Z). Brent you know you have my best wishes and we'll all have our fingers crossed and watching closely.
Yes, Toby, I agree I think he has something loose up there. LOL J/K Brent
Brent PM me as to when you'll be dropping it for the carrier. Just wanted to see if you need a ride back or anything and trying to figure out how this will work.
Robbie <-------Very excited about this and DEFINITELY NOT trying to join the 200mph club just yet and will also be rocking the top down.
Edit: Oh and Sharif... You da man! Look forward to meeting you.
