GM sucks, I have not owned a GM sports car since my 82 Camaro Pace Car (piece of junk). I still own my 91N/A, 94TT, and 2003 z33. I will probably never sell any of the three (and if I do, the z33 has to go).

why would you even expect a N/A 3.5 liter V6 to be anywhere near the performance of any supercharged performance V8 engine? let alone a Z06 Vette. Jackass....... Accept the car for what it is and you'll love it

I wasn't talking about the new z06(c6), but you can definitely get a slightly used c5 or c5 z06 for 28k, you didn't say it had to be new. I love my z, but there are better bang/buck sports cars out there, and I will have another corvette in my stable sooner than later.

I get 26 mpg @ 65 on the highway in 6th in the z. I got 35mpg in my c5 targa in 6th at 80 mph on my way back from Michigan after picking it up.

Thats odd, at 65 I get about 32 or 33MPG.

I dunno, I don't exactly feel comparing a used car with xxxxx miles is worth comparing to a brand new car. You could easily say you can get a 350Z in the teens.... why would you compare price of a new car with a used car?

So lets say you have $20k to play with. For 20k you can get a c5 with about 40-50k miles. For that same price that will get you a z with 30-40k miles. Plus the insurance on a vette is a hell of a lot cheaper. For 28k you can get a c5 with very low teens in mileage. Do yo have any breathing mods done? I get about 26 mpg on the highway (pump tested, not the mpg indicator)

Full bolt-ons now... I've gotten 30MPG@80 going to Destin when I was bone stock. I get around 24-25 mixed driving now. All done at the pump although the indicator is fairly accurate.

IIRC, the Z's time at the Ring was faster than a C5 Vette hehe.

:shrugs:

I had more fun in my Z than driving/riding in a C5 so I guess IMO, it wouldn't be a better bang for the buck car. If we're talking new for both cars, then its an obvious winner.

Once again depends, you can walk away with a new c6 for 38ish, depending on what model z you get you may only be a few thousands away from walking away with a c6. I'm not saying the z isn't a nice car, I love mine, the vette is just a different beast.

Sad part about this is I knew you were gonna say that. My cousin bought his 07 Z for $26k... simple as that.

Meh, the vette has a LS1... thats the only thing about that car that I consider a beast.

He asked what other sports car was available that had some economic value to it as well, so I pointed out the c5.

Meh, the vette has a LS1... thats the only thing about that car that I consider a beast.
And to make it competitive to a c6 (straight line only) you will need a greddy tt and eventually a built motor, so tack on at least 12k, then you have to upgrade the wheels/brakes/suspension to keep up with it on the track. The ls1 is a beast of a motor as is the entire line of lsx motors and corvettes track very well.

Nurburgring times:

c6 z06: 7:42
c5 z06: 7:56
c6 z51: 7:59
350z (6mt track): 8:26
c5 auto non z51 (turd): 8:40

Trying to find a good source for a z51 c5, it should just be a tad slower than the c5 z06 though.

I'm not a 350z hater so I'm not sure why everyone is being so critical. I love my z, and it is a good entry level sports car, but I think there are better bang/buck sports cars out there, mainly the corvette. There's something to be said for a car that can put down 500 rwhp reliably for the price of a greddy tt kit for our cars. Plus I'm a sucker for a targa top.

Hell you want to talk about used cars, I could buy a 240 and kill a C5 in every aspect if I wanted to. Under 30k NEW, the C6 does not fit the description of best bang for the buck car. I've never done a best bang for the buck with used cars because hell... realistically anything used can be bang for the buck.

The LS1 may get better gas mileage on the interstate... but not in the city. I suppose next thing you'll say its rated at 17 city, but I get 23 when I drive in the city. My buddy has an 04 GTO and complains about the gas mileage all the time but I'm sure its a lot different.

I'm talking new car to new car, new z for 26 vs new c6 for 38 (I know someone who got one new out the door for 36), I still think the c6 offers better bang/buck, for the reasons I gave above. But yes you can always buy an old car and make it fast for cheap, not arguing that at all. As for fuel economy I got 22 in the city in my c5, lol. The reason the GTO's fuel economy sucks is because it's a lead sled. I think the curb weight on the GTO is around 3700lbs and the c5 is around 3200ish. It's the same reason an ls1 equipped gto runs low 14's, maybe high 13s with a good driver, and the c5(non z06) runs around mid-low 13's depending on driver.
