Default Wtf @ Oil Leak.

Dunno if this is the right spot to put this or not, but here goes.

Okay, so I took my car to have the oil changed on the 9th. Everything was fine until today. I was at a red light and I was like "Man someone's car smells like crap." So I pull off and turn into my grandpa office. I get out of the car, and I smell it again, so I got on the ground and looked under my car. At this point I saw oil all over the bottom of the car, I was like WTF.

So I drove back up to the oil place and told them to fix it, I seriously raised hell. They put me infront of the line and got right on it, which improved my mood a bit. About 20 minutes later the guy comes in and says my oil filter was leaking, and they may have put two gaskets in, so at that point I figured oh well no big deal. Then the dude comes back in a little bit later, says he found no problem with the fliter, didn't double gasket and he said it was on there nice and tight. So he filled it back up with new oil, and a new filter.

They also offered me three free oil changes, so that was pretty sweet. Anyways, I just got home about 10 minutes ago, while I was up at the gas station I smelled the same damn thing as earlier today, so once I got home I tried to look under my car to see if there was any oil under there, I couldn't really tell because I had to drive through some rain, guess i'll check in the morning.

Sorry for such a long post, but I don't like my car leaking anything.

Anyways, has anyone else had this happen to them before? And any suggestions? I was thinking about taking it to Nissan to see wtf is going on while they install my new wheel bearings, hopefully nothing bad is wrong. Sigh.

Any help and input appreciated.

I had the same prob buttt it was ME . I checked the oil and with the vortech it's hard to get the dipstick in well duh I only had it in to the first stop not to the second. blew oil all over . So changed the oil went to a presure wash with hot water and soap cleaned the whole engine bay . Thats what you will have to do or you are going to have a dirty stinky engine . Just don't do it to a hot engine warm is best like 140 or so .

How low was the oil when you took it back? Hopefully it didn't leak much, if it lost more than about 1 1/2 quarts I'd be demanding them to buy me a new engine.

That happened to me. I still dont understand what the heck happened. I did my oil change a little oil spilled on the bottome diffuser. No big deal. Everything was fine, until I floored it on the highway. My car let off a poof of smoke. Checked and the car had oil on the bottom. Couldnt trace it took the oil dip stick out and oil was fine. Oil pressure was fine, not sure wtf it was. After reading this I'm thinking I didnt put the dipstick in tight enough perhaps it shot out thru there?!

some tard probably didn't take off the underflap and got oil all over the bottom half of your car when it was draining. Therefore when the car heated up it was cooking the oil producing that smell. If that's not it, then put your car up on the lift and check the block for a leak. (i doubt it's leaking)

The copper washer on the drain bolt is not re-usable, but most dealers re-use them anyway becasue they torque everything down with impact wrenches and their techs are lazy and think that using a new gasket isn't necessary.

On many cars the gasket is reusable so this may confuse the techs.

The crush gaskets get REALLY thin after one use, so if a new one is not used, your drain plug can leak easily.

I smelled the same damn thing as earlier today, so once I got home I tried to look under my car to see if there was any oil under there, I couldn't really tell because I had to drive through some rain, guess i'll check in the morning.
If they didn't wipe the dripping oil off with a rag, the residual oil may burn off.

It is pretty rare for the filter to leak unless it is cross-threaded. So it's probably the drain bolt, if they checked the filter and didn't find anything.

dude...I've just noticed the same thing also. The thing is, the leak that I've found is toward the passenger side, right behind the passenger front wheel, kinda of a strange place for the engine oil to be leaking? I've thought that the oil is more towards the center of the car? My guess was also that the guy who did the oil change didn't take the under diffuser off completly, and there is some oil in there and leaked out recently. When I touched the leak, it really seemed too watery to be oil. Don't like finding a ****ing puddle in my garage. Now I'm keeping an eye out on the dipstick from now on.

Eh, Ive done worse. I had a few spirited drinks one night, and somehow ended up putting oil in my car, and left the cap off and sitting on top of the radiator. Started driving the next day and smelled the worse smell ever, pulled over and my entire engine bay was covered in oil. Cap still sitting on top of the radiator.

Alcohol and cars don't mix, in a number of ways!

Still boggles my mind that beer companies sponsor NASCAR

sometimes when you drop the old oil filter the old gasket stays up there and if your not paying attention and just spin the new one on it will leak like crazy, sounds like his double gasket talk was this exact thing

What's the smell? Because motor oil doesn't smell that bad to me. Are you talking about the exhaust smell?

Oil dripping on the exhaust has a strong odor. No where near as bad as leaking transmission fluid though. Oy. That **** stinks.

Only other place is the pan or the drain nut, they might have over torqued it and stripped the thing
