Default 2007 - Engine Hood Very Hot to the touch

I have a 2007 350z with less than 200 miles -- My Hood gets a real toasty after a short run granted its 82 degrees outside. Warms up my garage a few degrees. Is this normal, seems like an engine fan should stay on a while to cool this beast down?

Even though I don’t have a turbo, I turn off the ac a few minutes before I get to my destination and let the car idle for a little bit to cool off.

Of course, I also let it warm-up before I go anywhere.

dmw5678, the sun will obviously have a bearing on how hot the hood will get. May I suggest if you think this continues to be a concern, use a proper automotive temperature gauge and place on effected area immediately after stopping. Something I would also suggest is have a couple of 350's with the same set/year up do the same run and do exactly the same thing, oh and don't switch the engines off until you have your readings. Make hast to get your readings as temperatures drop very quickly. I've used this scenario in the past myself a few times for comparitive readings.

Yes it's normal. I was in the same boat as you when i first experienced this. Come to find out it's normal. It will stay hot for hours. My garage hits up alot also. This is why I like my Seibon hood. At a stop you see all the heat coming from the vents.

Stop hallucinating problems with your cool sports car... learn to accept the sounds and smells and temperatures it makes.

Chances are, unless you have a check engine light or your temperature gauge goes into the "H" region, no problem.

Hot engine bay's seem to be normal for this car.. The concern I have is the effect the heat may have on non metallic items like cables, plastics etc..The one thing I try to do when feasible is open the hood after shutting down and leaving it till it cools down..

Overkill...

Nissan engineers are not that stupid... they have selected plastics and rubbers that stand up to engine bay heat.

What I do is shut off the A/C (if it is running) for about 20 seconds before shutting the car down... which dries up condensation in the vents and helps the motor cool down as well.

You don't need to pop the hood unless maybe you just got through an autoX course (high load at low speed) or just did an uphill canyon run and suddenly stopped

I do the same in my garage open and the hood turn on a fan blowing out the door. Sometimes, at night when its cool, I just leave the car in driveway for a few minutes. Seems like the internal radiator fan would stay on for a few minutes to help cool the engine. As stated, I cannot touch the hood of the car when I fist turn it off after 10 minutes of driving in 80 -90 degree weather here in NJ. Seems very unusal, but this is a Sports Car. Actually, I can feel the heat from the engine when I wear flip flops from the drivers seat during driving. The temp guage reads normal, so I'm going to ignore this for now.

The floor under the passenger and drivers seats gets hot because your feet are right over the catalytic converters, which get pretty hot

Running engines get hot, so do things that are close to them. Don't worry about it and enjoy the car.

It's normal. Mine heats up my garage by a few degrees as well. The tighter engine bays do keep the heat in a little more, but it's really not that bad on a stock car... you should feel a turbo car after running around town, those get HOT.
