Default Question about break-in

my '07 has 1700+ miles now (500 over the manual recommendation). is it safe to take it over 4000rpm? It hasn't had it's first oil change yet. The service department at the dealer says not to take it over that until I get the oil changed at 3500 miles because of possible metal particles in the oil due to the engine's newness. Sorry, but I'm just becoming a little impatient.

If you go over 4,000 RPM, the motor will explode in a ball of flames. Dont say that I didn't warn you.

IMO, it wouldn't hurt anything to take it over 4k BEFORE 1200 miles. Just make sure the engine is warmed up before you do it. Personally, I'd never exceed 40% throttle or 3000 RPM before the car is warmed up (even after break-in).

One recommendation, though... don't just sprint straight to 7500 RPM. "Ease" it in. Start by pushing the car to 4500 rpm ... then after 50 miles, do 5000 rpm ... then after 50 miles, do 5500 rpm ... and so on.

I figured it would; good thing I have a fire extinguisher in there.

DO IT !!! and HOLD ON!

I hit red line 20 miles after the suggested breakin on my 07! It will be fine, hell the car has a 7500 rmp for a REASON

Cheers

I just picked up my Z today, and it had 157 miles on it. Quite honestly, I beat the **** out of it - nothing crazy, but I did take it well over 4,000 RPM numerous times. In fact, I remember flooring it a couple times. Is it anything I should worry about? The car's got 280 miles on it now. I put over 100 miles on it the first day I drove it. Anyway, do you think that if I'm easy on her for the next couple hundred miles, I'll be okay?

REPENT, and you shall be SAVED!

I've heard conflicting views about breakins. Manual says go easy, some people (with experience building engines) say whip it hard.

Too late, you think? I'm always easy on her, aside from the couple times I did that in the beginning. I actually shift it at 4 grand, just because the manual says not to go over that. I don't want to have ruined my Z because I drove it a little quickly a few times. I estimate the VQ has a greater tolerance than to bear an effect after something like what I've done to it.
