This has probably been posted or asked before, but I am getting ready to do a tune up and would like to know what is the best parts I can get (if I even have any options) and what I will need... my first time working on my Z alone... LOL. So please be nice...
1 - ignition wires
2 - spark plugs
3 - distributor cap (should I just buy the stock replacement or is there something better out there?)
4 - or whatever else...

Your going to want to go to summit racing and pick up some 22mm wires around 200 bucks, also get the high performance cap and rotor for another 75 buck.
There are lots of plugs to chose from but go with the a/c delco gold, these are worth 5-6hp over stock around 25 each.
Should take no longer than an hour to replace all.
Good luck,
Mike

OP: go with OEM, save yourself the money.
The Z uses direct INGNITION which means you have a coil pack for each cylinder...this means no distributor and no spark plug wires.
As far as plugs are concerned, you could stick with OEM. I bought some NGK Iridiums from Adam and Kwame @ Z1 and are very happy with them.
Changing out the plugs isn't too bad. I found the hardest thing was to get enough room for my hands to be able to unclip the wiring harnesses from each coil pack so I could remove them.
Also make sure you have a good 3/8" extension bar to use.

I think you mean direct IGNITION...

Your Z's either a Diesel or a Mazda to have direct injection.
My guess yours is a diesel model.
Maybe you can help him change his parts.
Good luck with all that,
Mike

This is a perfect example of why you shouldn't believe everything people say on the forums
To the OP: I took my time doing it and it took maybe 90 minutes total. Like I said in a previous post, I would recommend getting a long 3/8" extension and using a torque wrench to tighten everything back down to spec. While you're under the hood, it may be a good idea to clean your throttle body and MAS as well.

You'll get bad advice from all facets of life. I'm sure everyone has been to a mechanic or dealer that had no clue what they were talking about.
The great things about forums are that bad information is usually addressed pretty quickly. Case-in-point: I erroneously wrote Direct Injection instead of Direct Ignition, and two members were able to quickly point out that error.
Change the grease on the belts while you are under the car unhooking he spark plug wires. It is easier that way. Don't forget about the air in the shocks or washers on the valve stems.
And least I forget............the bulbs in the spoiler.
