Default Well, it finally happened...

my tranny gave out today after abusing the hell out of it when I had the vortech to and beating on it with the twins, it was only a matter of time...I wish it held out for another month, but things don't always go as planned

It all started this morning when I shifted into 5th in MM mode and the car shifted, but the rpm's didn't drop....I then had issues accelerating and the car would jerk and not always go into gear. I've also had a terrible ticking noise coming from the tranny and it sounds like it's going to explode

The car runs, and I can drive it around for a few miles, but then the tranny tells me it's had enough and makes the car go into limp mode.

Time for a new tranny, a build, and moar powa!!!

Has anyone else blown their 5AT tranny? What were your symptoms?

Sorry to hear - but looks like your looking forward to the build and more power. That's the spirit.

You could try a tranny flush and try to get whatever debris is causing trouble out of there.

Just curious - did you use a aftermarket tranny cooler, tranny temp gauge, and/or tranny filter?

Thanks! Yeah, I think I will do a tranny flush to see if I can lengthen it for just a tad bit longer...I'm sure there are little shavings in there, etc...

I did not use any of the above....I should have when I first got the Vortech, but I was stupid...I knew my tranny was already partially messed up after the Vortech because that was the first time I had boost and I beat the **** out of it so I didn't want to bother with the aforementioned items while I had the twins. I just wanted to enjoy it for the summer and if it went, it went....

When I do build my new tranny I will include a cooler and a temp gauge...

I've never heard of a tranny filter, though...

This is the one I found: http://www.emergingent.com/subpage1Magnefine.htm

Good luck w/ the build. Keeping the tranny from overheating is really important.

Buying a new tranny is a learning experience! Especially a Nissan 5AT with integrated TCU.

I'm on number 3 in old 4AT Q45 and they only cost me $1800 [wholesale Nissan remans] plus 5 hours labor. Recently paid $3700 [wholesale] for a precision rebuild on my C43 AMG 5AT and it took 9 hours to swap but what can you expect from MB.

You can say that again! LOL

Luckily, the junkyard dealer I spoke with and SGP have been VERY helpful in providing me with information, opinions and suggestions.

Looks like I've made a decision. Apparently there are at least two types of RE trannies (with the same code) for the G35. Unfortunately, I have an early 03 (production date of 10/02) and my tranny was only made for 2 months. Luckily, the junkyard dealer I spoke to has one IN STOCK!!! and it's only 30 minutes away from me...they quoted me 1,350 w/ 29k miles on it and according to SGP, that's a great deal so I'm going to pick it up this week

Now I have to decide if I'm going to build it or just get the SGP VB, TQ Converter, and Cooler (I'm only looking at 500whp) and upgrade the clutchpacks later if I so choose. I know they will wear out eventually, but I may only keep the car for another year so we'll see.

I'll post an update as soon when the new tranny is in the car so the other 5AT guys have something to compare to...I know I had a hard time getting info because there is very little information about boosted 5AT's.

I am about to buy a used tranny with a forged v/b,im gonna swap out the v/b with mine and at a later date send the tranny in for a rebuild at sgp. This way i wont have any down time..........unless it lets go at the wrong time, but even if that happens i could just swap out tranny,s.

My tranny did the same thing before going south. Found a used one with only 5k miles for $500 had the VB and TQ converter replaced along with a tranny cooler. 15k at its holding strong, but I am getting a vibration at high rpms. I am thinking its more of a drive shaft problem or axle. I will know for sure monday
