Changing the final drive ratio doesn't change your lube requirements.

OEM gear oil should be fine for the new gears with the VLSD.

That's hard for any of us to say. What other mods do you have? I'd say that changing the final drive ratio would not be a good first mod... I probably wouldn't put a 3.91 or 4.08 into an 5AT... just my opinion.

If you're hard core into modding... and you're sure you won't want to go FI in the future, it might be worthwhile to switch FD gears to a 3.70. That would be my call.

You've got some nice mods...

I'd probably put headers on first, get it tuned, then maybe a 3.70.

I see a lot of people getting the new final drives with upgraded LSDs. Is it okay to get 3.9 or 4.083 gears and install it with the stock VLSD?

Z1auto sends like a 30 dollar kit with allll the stuff you have to have. they have another kit with some bearings and stuff if your car has over 25k miles and could use the upgrade for another 300.

"Let me first say.... This is by far the BEST mod i have done to my NA car..."

I'm loving my 3.9FD setup

Is it safe to assume that the 4.083 gear could be swapped into an '08 G35 6MT the same as the '07+ 350z?

With the extra weight of the G35, I'd love to have some shorter gears to get me moving faster.

I suspect the '08 Sedan has the same rear end as the Coupe, but I'm not absolutely sure.

The 4.08 gears are a nice addition to a G35 though!

Has anyone ever had an issue w/ the 4.083 gears messing up their cruise control?

I heard a rumor that some people have had this issue and just wanted to see if it was true or not.

I would assume the cruise no longer works on the auto G's. This is at least how it was when installing the 3.9's on auto G's and I'd imagine its the same result when doing the 4.08

As for the rpm's, you can find that data on page 1 of this thread

that's unfortunate. Is there any reason that anyone knows of why the cruise control continues to work in the 350z but doesn't in the G35?

im talking more into the aspect of everyday driving. I looked at WOT shifts and rpms etc. just curious like what the rpms are at cruising on the highway at say 70 or 75. and or gas mileage.

So far my mileage has dropped from about 19 miles per gallon to around 17 1/2 miles per gallon. In all fairness, I have to say that I have driven my G a little bit rougher since the gears and Haltech/tune went in.

The RPMs went up about 400 revs. 3400 RPM is 80 miles per hour. Cruising on the highway at 70-80 miles per hour is not an issue. I recently drove over to Orlando and back... not a problem.
