I am thinking about doing this but everyone recommended getting new bearings and shims and all this crap that would almost double the cost.

You didnt need any of these other things?

Wow 4.0 gears. I am on the fence about FI. I need a ride in a NA 390 gear or 4.0 gear car...

Congrats on the mod. Cant wait to see your results from the track day.

Keep in mind that you will shift earlier than you otherwise would and that the next gear up has a much lower ratio than your original final drive + lower gear ratio. Choosing a rear diff gear ratio that lets you finish the 1/4 mile at redline is optimal. No question that your maximum torque increases (this occurs in 1st gear only). The drive wheel tq = engine tq * transmission gear ratio * final drive ratio. Using a dyno chart from a stock car, along with the speeds above you can list the tq output for each gear. You will find that shifting to the next gear up provides a dramatic drop in drive wheel torque.

i bought 3.9 gears for mine and it was great when i first got it then........i hated them! 1st gear is beyond useless and when normaly driving the short gears were getting anoying......also gas was getting pretty bad i could really notice it in my credit bill lol. but so much fun it makes me smile especially in the canyons it pulls like crazy out of the corners like i added 50whp!

but i ended taking them out since the noise from my motor at me driving 100 on road trips were anoying along with gas and completely staring in 2nd every time....

I would not recommend these gears if you DO NOT have the reflash.

Unless you have a 07

With that said..

They kick ars

You turbo guys will understand ( remember the chills that went up your back when you first drove your FI car?? ) Thats me

First, 2nd and third gears are amazing. The car pulls sooo much harder now. I cant wait to get it to the track rental next friday.

I also added in the 3.9 Gear for comparison.....

Here is a break down of the gear ratio's

1st Gear Ratio: 3.794:1
2nd Gear Ratio: 2.324:1
3rd Gear Ratio: 1.624:1
4th Gear Ratio: 1.271:1
5th Gear Ratio: 1.000:1
6th Gear Ratio: 0.794:1
-Reverse Ratio: 3.446:1
Final Drive Ratio: 3.538:1

STOCK 3.538 Gear-------------ECU REFLASH 3.538 Gear
6600 Rpm Redline -------------------7200 Rpm Redline

First --------- 38mph -----------------First--------42mph
2nd ---------- 62mph----------------- Second-----68mph
third ----------89mph----------------- Third ------ 97mph
forth -------- 114mph----------------- Forth-------124mph
fith ----------144mph----------------- Fith--------158mph
sixth -------- 182mph----------------- Sixth-------199mph

No Reflash 3.9 Gear -------------ECU REFLAH 3.9 Gear

6600 Rpm Redline --------------------7200 Rpm Redline

First -----------35mph-----------------First --------38mph
Second --------56mph-----------------Second------62mph
Third ----------81mph----------------- Third--------88mph
Forth----------103mph-----------------Forth-------113mph
Fith-----------131mph----------------- Fith--------143mph
Sixth----------165mph-----------------Sixth------- 180mph

No Reflash 4.083 Gear---------ECU REFLASH 4.083 Gear
6600 Rpm Redline ------------------- 7200 Rpm Redline

First --------- 33mph--------------------First -------36mph
second ------ 54mph---------------------Second-----59mph
Third -------- 77mph---------------------Third -------84mph
Forth -------- 99mph---------------------Forth------107mph
Fith ---------125mph---------------------Fith--------137mph
Sixth ------- 158mph---------------------Sith--------172mph

When i am in sixth gear and doing 80mph i am at 3300rpm. At 100mph i am at 4300rpm.

With the new gears i should finish the 1/4 right at the top of forth gear... I hope i dont have to shift at the last second.

More to come

Todd
Your acceleration will be faster, yes. However from what you posted it appears you will be trapping at 107mph correct? I would be in 6th gear with out the reflash on those gears.Thats ALOT of shifting..

If I ever get around to getting boost on my 07, I'm putting the 3.538 back in. Don't even need the 3.3 with the 07's. With the right tires, 07 redline takes you to well over 130 in 4th.

Actually, you would just have shifted into 5th gear, not 6th.

Still, might not be optimum for you if you drag race a lot.

Only if you're going S/C. Turbo doesn't really like short gears.
