I really want the 350Z. My brother has had some friends and his girlfriend that had trouble with Nissan transmissions. I am going to upgrade the clutch, flywheel, short shifter, etc. Because I want to go FI, preferably Twin Turbo. But, has Nissan's transmission problem/department changed???????? Every time I see a Z he says, yeah, it looks good, but the transmission sucks. I just ignore him. I will build it up. I want it to last for a while (like close to 100,000 miles). My Dad has a ('93 i think) Pathfinder. He has had two or three engines, and two transmissions. But that was '93, have they changed? I am going to get a manual. Man I really hope everyone says they have.
Do a search on transmission... there are a lot of threads about that... and the transmission of the Z may have some problems but if something wrong happens its all under warranty so no worries.... Have fun with the it for a few weeks a month or more if u get any troubles then .. go the dealership... if they say they are gona change the trans... bring in the flywheel and clutch that u want...
Actually, the transmission problem doesn't seem to have been solved.
In your particular case, FI would make any warranty claims difficult, if not impossible. I would wait until Nissan has straightened out the issue before doing any kind of FI.

no problems here, never heard that it was a problem either. I hear some grinding problems, nothing I havent heard for countless other trannys. rsx was one, whos tranny has been praised.
wouldnt worry about it... I dont.

Once in a while I do encounter grinding into 3rd but that's because of miss-shifting. I have no qualms about the transmission other than the embarassment of a miss-shift lolol. Anyhow I did notice that I can shift without the cluth when my rpms are ~3000. Kinda curious if I can do it around 6k lol. I don't think you'll have probs with the 350z's tranny. And if anything, like mentioned above it's warrentied so it doesn't come out of your pocket if it had to be repaired for some (recall?) reason.

Your not gaining much shifting gears with no clutch
so save yourself the hassle of blowing your tranny even though its covered. Who likes to loose there car to the dealership anyways??? I always laugh at people who slam there shifter into gear like its making any huge differences. WOW, you saved a .00010 of a second!

I hear you bro, but in the real world not on the track why slam the gears violently? I shift hard myself but not as hard as some people I've seen. Thats why they go through Syncro's/Tranny rebuilds and I don't. Why go through the hassle of loosing the car. my oppinion

The 3rd gear grinding is really getting on my nerves. It only happens in the morning when I firt take off. I used to think it was driver error. I have since confirmed it happens almost everytime on the first drive of the day the first time I go into 3rd. I took it to the dealer. They had the car overnight to see if it would grind in the morning. Of course it didn't so they say. Anyway, I'm hoping more people will report the problem so we can get down to the root cause.
Trackbite..... It grinds in the morning or on ur first run of the day... becuz the oil in the gearbox did not heat up to make every gear change smoothly....
I have the same problem in my Evo.... i usually drive slow and shift where the rpm's meet every morning so i don't grind it...after i drive it for a bit... i heat things up slowly until i can floor it and be confident in changing gears without grinding
Hope it helps
