Question Warranty Tranny SOS

Hello! I have been having slight issues with my tranny in my '03. The usual rough shifting into 2nd and 3rd. Of course, the dealership say's that it's normal with ALL Z's.

Anyone have any advise how I can make my tranny more obvious that it is in need of Warranty work?

By the way, my Warranty is up in 5 weeks.

Thanks!
LC

Is it grinding as if the synchros are going bad? If so, are there any other dealerships you can take it to in the area where you wouldn't have to deal with a hard-headed service department?

"Rough" shifting is a pretty broad term. If you've got grinding, it sounds like the '03 tranny issue. Could you be more specific?

It shifts "loud"-a mechanical noise, not so much grinding, but I can feel it in the shifter. And then when I take it out of that gear and place it back, it's fine. Worse cold and if I shift slower, it's not as bad.

You're gonna have to research the TSBs, and then go complaining and be persisitent if you want the latest version tranny swapped in within the next few weeks... good luck.

I agree that the 350z's tranny is very loud and "mechanical" feeling along with the clutch. It's by far the loudest tranny I've driven. If it's not grinding, you may have problems getting the tranny replaced.

Out of curiosity, have you driven or rode along with another z driver to compare your transmissions? If you could, it should be the same year/tranny model if you can, so you can have an apples to apples comparison.

Even test drive the 07 and see if it has the same "Feel". Chances are it will not since it has the new model tranny, but either way you might be a little more informed and ready to make a case for yourself.

OP, I am having the same problems with my Z also, its a 03 touring, but only grinds if i shift too fast (2nd to 3rd) when the car is still cold but if i let the stick slide right then push it up slow it won't grind ( it might not even be grinding, more close to how you described it mechanical), I took mine in but they also told me it was normal gonna try again this weekend let me know how yours turn out, but it doesn't grind a lot either so I don't know whats going on

try another dealer, we have a least 5 Nissan dealers in my area. Some are better than others.

Unhappy

Here's the deal, I talked with a buddy of mine who works at the dealership, he ran the VIN and the tranny was replaced at 12K w/a 009 tranny.

I've heard they shift as smooth as 'butter', but mine is not this way. I'll try to test drive another Z VERY soon.
