so I recently had a transmission service and ever since then it is very hard to get into second when "cold". This problem usually goes away after 20 minutes of driving, but until then I usually have to forcefully jam it into second after it won't let me ease into 2nd gear.

I had the trans and clutch inspected, and no problems were found. Could this issue be do to the type of trans fluid the dealer used?

Should I try a fully synthetic trans oil or stick with oem? Anyone else experience something similar? suggestions? Thx!

 

I would think if the dealership used OEM fluid you should've had no problems. You could try changing out fluid. Having a hard time shifting when the car is cold is indicative of viscosity issues with the tranny fluid. There's a thread in the DIY section that gives various specs of what people use in their tranny.

 

If it's not grinding, it's just naturally notchy transmission.

Fairly normal... and sometimes fluid can help... although it's still a bit notchy for me with redline fluid

 

Agreed...It's not grinding-just extremely notchy sometimes. Thx for the input guys. I can't believe anyone would put a short shifter on our cars, it would just make it all the more notchy.

 

Yup 2 z's now and I have the same problem till it warms up. It seems to be a normal thing. LoL I have a top speed short shifter, and it does not bother me at all. Although I do miss my stock one, I went to put it back on and realized when I threw my stock clutch and flywheel away I tossed my damn shifter also.

 

can't hurt to throw some AMSOIL trans fluid in there, should flow better at cold temps.

 

anybody ever try a penzoil syncromesh?

 

That will be my next choice. I'm currently running Redline. It's ok.
